How Ewan McGregor Had An Epic Lightsaber Duel With A Famous Musician

Interesting!

Recently, the Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor threw it back to Noel Gallagher. Apparently, the Oasis lead singer has been saying that the two engaged in a lightsaber duel after McGregor was cast as the iconic character in The Phantom Menace. Ewan McGregor recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel and set the record straight about Gallagher’s story. As it would turn out, the story is true for the most part. Although there were some aspects that may be a little fuzzy. Gallagher claimed that he gave McGregor his first lightsaber combat instruction, but McGregor did not seem to recall much instruction going on. Either way, he was able to give some much-needed details in his Jimmy Kimmel interview.

“Well, it was Noel Gallagher’s 30th birthday party and he lived quite close to me in London, North London [to be exact]. And I was at his party and then there was a lightsaber fight in his garden very early the next day in the morning. But I don’t remember too much instruction. I don’t remember any lessons being given by Noel. It was just more of a battle in the garden.”

— Ewan McGregor

It is amazing to be in a world where Ewan McGregor fought Noel Gallagher with lightsabers! However, it appeared no one knew who the victor of this battle was. “I would be surprised if either of us could remember that,” McGregor said. In any case, "Battle in the Garden" would make an excellent title for an episode in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show if anyone from Disney or Lucasfilm is reading this.

Not only that, but we also got to learn that Ewan McGregor has a secret love for unicycling. In the same interview, Jimmy Kimmel played a video that was posted by McGregor’s daughter on his birthday. The actor seemed to be quite proficient on a unicycle. “I picked it up years ago just as a whim, on a whim, you know,” said McGregor. “It’s a very difficult thing to learn to do. You can only learn to do it by falling over and getting back up, and falling over and getting back up, and I think that is a lot, that’s like, a sort of metaphor, if you like, for life.”

Moving back to the topic of Star Wars, Jimmy Kimmel asked McGregor how it felt to be back in the role. He then tried to prod for any sort of reveal or spoiler that McGregor could give us. Aside from stating he got to film a scene with someone that was tremendously important to him, who we had never seen together with him on screen before, McGregor did not reveal much. However, he did say that it felt great to be back in the role and that the suit may have changed from what fans remember.

“It feels great! I have to say I’m having a really good time. The costume’s probably slightly different than, you know, you might expect, but to go back into the role, shall we say, was great! It’s all still there. It feels good. There’s some great scripts and great people to work with. It’s great, I’m having a good time.”

While it is unfortunate that Ewan McGregor could not share any big reveals from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, it is great to know that he is having a good time filming. It is also fantastic to know that McGregor seems to be as happy playing Obi-Wan as we are watching him on screen in that role. Now we just need to see if we can get Noel Gallagher in the show somehow as a rival Force user, so we can finally get the true victor of their lightsaber duel.
