Many TV shows will have multiple directors per season or throughout the entire show. Bringing Star Wars into the TV show/streaming world has allowed for multiple directors to be attached to the series in a fashion similar to other TV shows. So far, many episodes throughout The Mandalorian have been directed by different people. Because of this, Lucasfilm is able to infuse new voices to bring differing perspectives, ideas, and thought processes to the franchise all while spreading their umbrella of talent in an effort to create an amazing show. Having multiple directors helps the show not get too stale as it brings in new twists or methods of telling a story with every episode.

This is definitely the case with The Mandalorian. The hit series’ first season brought an all-star cast of directors to bring Jon Favreau’s creation to life. Even though Favreau is one of the main masterminds behind this series, he did not direct every episode. Several of the directors from season 1 of The Mandalorian were brought back to write for season 2. Some of the directors were not brought back, but instead, given Star Wars projects of their own, including some of the new Star Wars series that Disney+ and Lucasfilm currently have in pre-production.

There were also several new directors brought on for season 2 of The Mandalorian, including a familiar face to fans of the show. And now, he has finally revealed what episode he directed.

In a recent interview with ET Canada, Carl Weathers, also known as Greef Karga to fans of the series, revealed that he directed “Chapter 12” of The Mandalorian. This is the fourth episode of season 2 and will be streaming Friday, November 20.

The full interview with Carl Weathers and ET Canada can be seen below.

If the recent speculation is accurate, then “Chapter 12” should be the episode of Nevarro where the Mandalorian (Mando) reunites with Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Cara Dune (Gina Carano). If this proves to be the case, then Carl Weathers will be directing himself as Greef Karga, in addition to his co-stars.

This could be something very interesting. There have been movies and shows where the director has either a cameo role or a supporting character role. Very few movies and shows have had the director as a main character. Whether or not Greef Karga would play a major role in this episode, if this is indeed the case, remains to be seen. But when a director directs themselves and anyone else they work with, it definitely changes the dynamic and the feel, usually for the better, of the show or movie. It would also be something very different from what has been done so far with The Mandalorian.

This method can work well for certain directors. Some prefer to be completely behind the camera, but others prefer to be there in front of the camera alongside the others whom they are directing. Carl Weathers is the perfect actor to be the "follow my lead" director. He knows what it is like to act, and he knows how to direct. Many directors and actors have said that knowing how to act and direct is a very important skill. A director has to know how to think like an actor, and it helps an actor to know how the director thinks as well. It is for this very reason that there are movies and shows directed by famous actors/actresses.

Gina Carano has said in the past that Carl Weathers’ directions while they were filming season 1 were invaluable. This most likely made him an obvious pick for directing an episode in season 2.

With Carl Weathers most likely directing the episode with himself in it, the fans are wondering what sort of developments are in store for Greef Karga. Will he undergo a significant development, or not quite yet? Could he become a full-time partner of Mando, alongside Cara Dune? Or will the greedy not so great side of his character come through as he makes a deal with Moff Gideon or someone else? Or, perhaps, will his character end up dying during this episode or another?

All bets are off, and all options remain on the table at this point. It will be really fascinating to see what Carl Weathers will bring to this season, both as Greef Karga and as a director. “Chapter 12” will debut on Friday, November 20, and with it, Carl Weathers' debut as an official Star Wars director.
