Azriel sighed as she kneeled at the altar steps, looking up at the ceiling, uncertain of whether God had abandoned her for falling in love or had he abandoned all of his children alike. Tears streamed down her face, thinking of things God had once said to her. She was the closest to him, his right hand, and although he loved all of his children, she was the one constantly at his side, until he disappeared, leaving her to wander the earth and the heavens aimlessly, no task at hand and wondering what she might have done wrong.

Her brothers on the other hand busied themselves with childish ideas, thoughts of war and death, surprisingly Azriel, being the Angel of Death longed for the love she had more than the need to kill. Yet she had fallen in love with the perfect person to give her a dosage of both. Damien Thorn, prince of hell himself, Good to her alone, loving when needed yet absolutely twisted and sadistic, a combination that fit hers so well.

Gabriel and Michael always argued over petty things, who did God love more? What did God want more? And now that God’s gone they fought over what was the reason for his disappearance. Michael had his mind set that they had strayed from him; the angels had become the worst of the worst, no more loving than the demons they fought to keep the humans safe. While Gabriel thought the humans have strayed so far that now God had given up and left, leaving both species to fend for themselves.

While neither of the two was right, they both equally used that opportunity to run wild on earth, killing and possessing just like demons have done for many centuries, each against the other and each claiming to be right. Azriel had left her brother’s lives and their silly fights long after her father had vanished. Now she slept in the same bed as the prince of hell, roamed his estate as if it is her own, loving him purely and solely.

“You’re a disgrace” a familiar voice spoke from the right corner, hiding in the shadows behind the beams of the church “I’m the disgrace while you’re harming humans, taking them away before their time, possessing them, harming their loved ones…” she said, getting to her feet, her black wings swaying with her movements as she stepped closer to the shadows from where the voice came, wiping away her tears as the dark figure with wings white as now made its way out towards her “God has abandoned them Azra!” he shouted in a fit as he drew from the shadows.

“God has abandoned us both, Gabriel” another familiar voice came from near the church entrance, footsteps heard as he made his way towards them “Michael and Gabriel, lovely surprise, what do you want?” she asked wondering what was it about her that made it so appealing for them to put their differences aside even for a few minutes to meet up in a church. “You’re fucking a human!”said Gabriel, who stood a few feet away from her studying her expressions carefully “And what does that have to do with either of you?” she asked, eyes looking back at Gabriel knowing finally what brought them forward.

“Besides the fact that you chose the prince of hell as your lover?” said Michael who now stood next to them “Or the fact that you chose a human to fall for and live on earth?” added Gabriel, rolling his eyes at her. Both of them passing judgment among each other. “It’s good seeing that you two could actually put your differences aside and agree on something, but my personal life isn’t any of your business, brothers” She said, walking down the steps altar and taking a seat in one of the front benches, watching them from where she sat, eyes studying their behavior as she knew it by heart, the judgment, the silly arguments, all part of her life for centuries, all gone and all back now to involve themselves in her life. “What would Father say about what you’re doing?” said Michael, shaking his head at her “Sleeping with Damien thorn, living with him, he’d damn you to hell!” Maverick thought he might be right, if God hadn’t left then he would indeed damn her, he would send her down to hell where she belongs, with Damien. But he was nowhere to be found, long gone by now so why should it matter, and why of all the angels, they were the ones to judge her.

“God’s gone, he left. You two are here playing toy soldiers of a war that is all up in your heads while you should be living your lives because he isn’t coming back!” she said, rushing to her feet again “If either species really mattered then he’d be back by now, not to damn me but to damn us all.” She stepped closer to Michael “You, for thinking we are any better than humans or demons” then looking over at Gabriel “And you, for thinking you could kill his creations only because they displease you, they don’t displease him, none of us do!”

She turned to walk out but as soon as she reached the exit the two angels blocked it, making her stumble a few steps back and fall on her back “What do you want?” she asked again, eyes studying theirs “You have twenty-four hours, either you die with your lover or you pick a side and go with either of us, fight the war like you’re intended” said Gabriel before flying away. Michael on the other hand took a few moments to look her over on the floor, and then quietly leaned in to help her up to before flying away.
