Full Moon in Virgo (March 2022): Getting Back on the Right Track to Alignment

The moon will make it's last opposition to the sun for the 2021–2022 winter season in a few days. On the 18th, the moon will find itself at the midpoint of it's cycle in mutable, earthy Virgo. Anytime the moon makes this lunar-solar aspect, we have a full moon. The entirety of the moon being illuminated by the sun is where the "full" part comes from. Speaking to energy, the full moon in every lunar cycle marks a period of clarity, release, cultivation, and often, heightened intuition and emotions. This full moon will be in the sign of the virgin (also referred to as "the maiden," depending on who you ask), which is ruled by the Mercury and associated with the sixth house (6H) in astrology, which makes this a great time to focus on our health, organization, and dedication. 

The moon in Virgo

Virgo is a mutable sign (occurs at the end of the winter season) in the earth element. Virgo energy is determined, analytical, organized, intelligent, and often reserved. The full moon falling in this sign will bring in an energy that provides some clarity, illuminating the path(s) to progression and alignment with our highest good and ultimate desires. The Virgo zodiac is considered the virgin, as it is associated with purity and cleanliness. This moon will tap more into the organizational attributes of the sign given the Mercurial influence of it's ruling planet. As this is a cultivation period, expect to see a return on the things you find yourself working on over the next few weeks, around the end of summer and the beginning of the fall season. Since the full moon is also a time that aligns with release, we may also find ourselves walking away from situations that no longer excite us, gaining new perspective into our personal progression, and tying up loose ends. 

Virgo belongs to the earth element, which encompasses all things dealing with our physical foundations such as career, finances, our homes, and relationships (yes, this more of a love thing however, they span both categories). This full moon in Virgo prompts us to clear out clutter, rearrange, and reevaluate the course of action that leads to manifesting our dreams in the physical. our intended success and contentment. We can also attribute this to a trine aspect the moon makes with Pluto (in Capricorn). Pluto's influence is quite compelling as it governs the areas of transformation and regeneration in our lives. The full moon in Virgo also makes an opposition to Neptune (in Pisces) during this lunar transit. This energy is a bit more challenging as misunderstandings, miscommunication, and confusion can pop up anytime there is a "bad" aspect made to this planet. On the other hand, the clarifying energy of the full moon will help to clear up some of the confusion that Pisces season always brings about. 

There is also a waning conjunction between Venus and Mars (Aquarius) that lends a little of the romantically and sexually charged energy from the past couple of major lunar transits. This energy will be more evident during the pre-shadow of the Virgo full moon, on the 19th these two planets will move into a square with Uranus. The unpredictable energy of Uranus and the nature of the astrological aspect can lead to some love problems - possibly even break-ups, especially if the relationship was rocky or formed during the most recent Venus and Mercury retrograde periods (this includes the shadows!). 

Virgo full moon rituals

Intentions are a great way to manifest the things you want to see in your life. It is important to remember that the full moon marks the beginning of the end of a lunar cycle therefore, intentions shouldn't be focused on bringing in anything new. Instead, write intentions with phrases like "I release," "I no longer," and "I have clarity on/in" related to the Virgo energy of this lunar transit. You can write your intentions on an index card or a small piece of paper and burn them (somewhere safe!). Another way to tap into this full moons' vibes is by working with the earth element. Take a walk, sit in the park for a couple of hours, and put your toes in the grass. 

Full moons and new moons are a great time to get in touch and in tune with our spiritual energy, sometimes called our "higher selves." Working with colors, scents, and stones associated with the Virgo zodiac energy is one of the best ways to make the most of the spiritual tools you have available. Virgo colors include brown, white, and pale neutral shades. Earthy scents like sandalwood and rosemary are best to work with for this particular moon. A few Virgo stones that you can work with for the next few weeks are: Chrysocolla, Green Calcite, Howlite, Moss Agate, Petrified Wood, and Snowflake Obsidian. You can either place these stones around you, wear or carry them, or meditate with them to get the full effects of their healing properties.

Don't forget about Pisces…and get ready for Aries!

The Virgo full moon lands fulls under the opposite sign, Pisces. The Pisces new moon was a couple of weeks ago (Mar. 2) and set the tone for the duration of this lunar cycle, which will end when the moon makes its transit into the next sign, Aries. While the Pisces themes will be a lot less intense moving away from that lunar transit, some residual energy will linger for about two weeks, or until we have the new moon in Aries. You can also use the last couple of weeks in March to pair your Virgo full moon rituals with some Pisces new moon tools. A good way to mix in Pisces energy is to add a couple of Pisces stones to your Virgo collection. A few Pisces stones you could use are: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Blue Kyanite, Ethiopian Opal, Fluorite, and Peach Moonstone. You can also incorporate the water element--If you live somewhere warm, you could take a trip to the beach and let the salt water wash away the things you'd like to release. If it's not so tropical wherever you are, try making your own spiritual bath.

The Virgo moon energy will stay with us for about a month, or until we have the Libra full moon (Apr. 16). The strength of the effects will be more prominent during the full moon shadow periods, which are typically about three to four days before and after the moon. This lunar transit will primarily affect individuals with natal Virgo moon placements, specifically in 27 degrees or within the orb (six to seven degrees). People with a lot of Virgo, mutable, and earth placements in their chart(s) can expect for this to be a transformative time, even if it not clearly evident at a conscious level. Additionally, anywhere you find these placements in your chart can give you a hint as to what this full moon might bring in for you based on the surrounding planets, houses, and aspects.
