The moon will be making it’s first opposition to the sun for the 2022 fall season this week. On the 9th, the moon will find itself at the midpoint of it’s cycle in cardinal, airy Libra. Anytime the moon makes this lunar-solar aspect, we have a full moon. The entirety of the moon being illuminated by the sun is where the “full” part comes from. Speaking to energy, the full moon in every lunar cycle marks a period of clarity, release, cultivation, and often, heightened intuition and emotions. This full moon will be in the sign of the ram, which is ruled by Mars. It is also associated with the first house (1H) in astrology, which makes this a great time to focus on our individual needs, desires, and goals.

This lunar transit will primarily affect individuals with natal Aries moon placements, specifically in 16 degrees or within the orb (six to seven degrees). People with a lot of Aries, cardinal, fire, and 1H placements in their chart(s) can expect for this to be a transformative time, even if it’s not clearly evident on a conscious level.

The Moon in Aries

Aries is a cardinal sign (occurs at the beginning of the autumn season) in the fire element. Aries energy is optimistic, dominant, dynamic, rebellious, and and occasionally, impulsive. The full moon occurring in this sign will bring in an energy that helps us light the fire under our asses in order to make strides in achieving our goals. This moon will highlight any obstacles in place keeping you from moving forward on your manifestations. It will also bring in some realizations that you are the key player when it comes down to making things happen in your life. Aries is associated with Mars and things such as instinct, action, motivation, and physicality. Pairing these energies with the intuitive nature of the full moon, will put you in position to move forward in the most positively aligned ways.

As this is a cultivation period, expect to see a return on the things you find yourself working on over the next few weeks up through the end of this Aries annual lunar cycle, in the spring around the Aries new moon. Since the full moon is also a time that aligns with release, we may also find ourselves walking away from situations that no longer excite us, gaining new perspective into our personal progression, and tying up loose ends. Remember that Aries is a passionate and expressive fire sign, and the moon doubles a window into our feelings — so you may feel a little more emotionally charged for the next couple of weeks.

The full moon will form a few aspects that will alter,or enhance the energy of this transit. The first aspect being formed is an opposition to Venus. Venus governs love, beauty, relationships, and life’s pleasures. This aspect creates the desire for more affection, and can even lead make you feel a little clingy. The Aries full moon will also form a square to Pluto. Pluto governs transformation and the depths of our souls. This aspect can bring about a little bit of compulsive behavior by way of intense feelings. On the brighter side, this square will also give us grounds for some much needed healing and release. The full moon in Aries will also form a sextile between both Saturn and Mars. Saturn governs foundations, karma, paternal relationships, and routine. The planet is also currently in retrograde. The sextile between the moon and Saturn can actually create grounds for stability, growth, improvement, and resolve. Mars and the moon will amplify confidence, motivation, and positivity in general.

Aries Full Moon Rituals

Intentions are a great way to manifest the things you want to see in your life. It’s best to do your moon rituals as close to the transit as you can, but realistically speaking, that isn’t always possible. If you can, try to at least get them done at some point during the shadow period, which is around three to four days leading up to and also following the full moon. As a last resort, you can do them at some point before the next new or full moon. Remember to look at what else the moon has going on and the sign that it’s in so that you can also incorporate these energies into your rituals. It is important to remember that the full moon marks the beginning of the end of a lunar cycle therefore, intentions shouldn’t be focused on bringing in anything new.

Instead, write intentions with phrases like: “I release,” “I no longer,” and “I have clarity on/in” related to the Aries energy of this lunar transit. You can also include intentions speaking to cultivation like: “I am,” “I have clarity on,” and “I have the motivation I need for.” You can write your intentions on an index card or a small piece of paper and burn them (somewhere safe!). Another way to tap into this full moons’ vibes is by working with the fire element. This doesn’t have to be super extensive elemental magic — burn a candle during your rituals and/or take some time to feel the sun on your skin if you’re lucky enough to be in a place where it still feels like summer.

Full moons and new moons are a great time to get in touch and in tune with our spiritual energy, sometimes called our “higher selves.” Working with colors, scents, and stones associated with the Aries zodiac energy is one of the best ways to make the most of the spiritual tools you have available. Aries colors are hot colors like shades of red and orange. I like to work with scents that remind me of the element that I am working with. Any time there is a fire full or new moon I will use a peppery fragrance or something with citrus. You can also add some healing crystals into the mix. A few Aries crystals that you can work with for the next few weeks are Bloodstone, Fire Agate, and Red Jasper. A You can either place these stones around you, wear or carry them, or meditate with them to get the full effects of their healing properties.

Don’t forget about Libra…and get ready for Scorpio!

The Aries full moon falls under the opposite sign, Libra. The Libra new moon was a couple of weeks ago (Sep 25) and set the tone for the duration of this lunar cycle, which will end when the moon makes its transit into the next sign, Scorpio. While the Libra themes will be a lot less intense moving away from that lunar transit, some residual energy will linger for about two weeks, or until we have the new moon in Scorpio (Oct 25). You can also use the first couple of weeks in October to pair your Aries full moon rituals with some Libra new moon tools. A good way to mix in Libra energy is to add a couple of Libra crystals to your Aries collection. A few Libra stones you could use are Rose Quartz, Jade, Lilac Lepidolite, and Kyanite (Black, Blue, and Orange). You can also incorporate the air element — step outside and breath, do some yoga, or just sit and take it all in.

The Aries full moon energy will stay with us for about a month, or until we have the Taurus full moon and lunar eclipse (Nov 8). The strength of the effects will be more prominent during the full moon shadow periods. Again, it’s better to do your moon rituals on during the transit however, if you’re unable to during that time, the shadow period is always a good second option (speaking to spirituality — it’s all about intention, do what works best for you…don’t worry about anybody telling you that you can’t do your rituals because the moon left a certain sign). Additionally, anywhere you find these placements in your chart can give you a hint as to what this new moon might bring in for you based on the surrounding planets, houses, and aspects.
