Since the world right now is laser focused on the serious issue of the COVID 19 novel Coronavirus and its spread, containment and treatment my own interpretation and perception of this week’s cards is colored by the intense global emotions and confusion that are so prevalent. There are many ways all the cards may be interpreted and I don’t want to skirt normal day to day experiences affected by their energy however I think this perspective is important.

The Center card this week is The Sun

The Sun is the most radiant card in the deck. It’s seen as joy, love, gentility and ecstatic expression, a dance in the sun’s beauty and light and the revelation of Self. What the Sun also does is illuminate. It’s impersonal and indiscriminate in who it touches opening each of us to the valuable healing nature of this clarity. We realize that, having gone through or going through difficult “dark” times we’re larger than we were before we were faced with those challenges. We're born anew and changed by that birth. What I see in this world-wide strike of alarm is a recognition of the truly vulnerable position we’re in as human beings. The release of petty arguments or disagreements to allow for a group effort to face something much bigger than we are, I think, is a huge step in the overall healing process. As we use our renewed sense of self and determination to overcome this virus that has no agenda, no bias and no need for distinction between people on a material level we’re forced to put aside those differences in order to deal with this threat. As devastating and awful as it is, one thing we may realize from this experience is how much more alike and vulnerable we all are. We’re in this together and mundane clashes and arguments pale in the light of a larger duty to health and safety for everyone.

The West card is the High Priestess.

As we move into this week preparation, gathering copious amounts of information, canned goods and toilet paper we’re also steeped in the deep sense of a greater whole. As the Sun lights up our connections to the others around us our concept of humanity as a greater whole broadens and feels closer to reality than in our normal self-focused daily life. Our sense of self, so defined and critical now, being forced to handle the idea that we must be hyper aware of our interactions with other people becomes a dichotomy to ponder and explore. We find ourselves working to better understand the virus itself, to care for our loved ones and the people around us and (hopefully) as we do so, recognizing how many people in the world are dealing with this same challenge. The High Priestess represents our recognition of Universal ONEness, the primal mystery that connects us as living beings experiencing physical form. The global connection we have now as we work as One to heal, help and communicate with each other is a perfect depiction of that mysterious connection in action. Our souls call to each other and respond in ways we don’t often get the chance to experience. Sometimes the Universe has to thump us on the head to get a point across.

The East card is the 4 of Wands.

Here’s where we get down to work. On the physical reality level this is the time to take a close look at our philosophies on life, connection, spirituality and our own human experience. Now is a good time to choose the roles you want to take on, form up a few rules of conduct to delineate your own path while working with others and plan ways to integrate your higher vibrational ideals into daily life. This is a minor Arcana card and with the minors we find the tools and resources to bring our vast global/Universal interface into hands-on reality. Here’s where the gears engage, the wheels turn and movement happens. The fire of the wands tweaks our creativity and sparks the dynamic force of our execution allowing us a bit of fearlessness to ignite action.

In conclusion;

With all the fear and confusion swirling around the atmosphere we’re being compelled to find our depth and strength in the face of very real global peril. We’re getting the in-your-face lesson that we’re a lot more vulnerable than we think as we walk through life focused on just what’s right in front of us. You know when you’re mind wanders and you waft into a daydream then someone claps their hands in your face and you’re jolted back to reality? This is sort of like that but with far greater consequences. Now’s the time to let the radiance of the Sun open our eyes to the huge macrocosm we're part of. Pay attention to those sharing this existence with us, drink Lots of water, wash your hands in hot water, with soap, often, be sensible, be sensitive and be kind, please, we’re all here together.
