Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series has finally started shooting and is on its way to becoming a reality. At the end of March, Disney announced the cast for the series, and Star Wars fans were excited and surprised to see some of the people who will be coming into the show or coming back to the Star Wars universe. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is being directed by Deborah Chow.

Of course, the big returning star is Ewan McGregor, who is, thankfully, reprising his magnificent portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Fans were also pleased to see that Hayden Christensen will be coming back as Darth Vader, the first time we’ve really seen him since the prequels. So, that should be interesting and exciting.

In new recently released photos from the set, we see that Ewan McGregor is sporting his classic Obi-Wan Kenobi beard.

Star Wars España (@StarWarsEs) Twitter posted the beard photos a few days ago with the caption:

“Ewan McGregor is ready to reprise his role as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The actor is already wearing his new look and is eager to begin filming this month.”

Check out the photos and the post below!

The photos were originally posted on @cyclegardenmotorcycles' Instagram in Indio, California with the caption:

“Hanging out with @bugnbox and the Scottsman today! A good time was had by all! #ewanmcgregor @motortech123 @biggggg_booty_judy

In addition to Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen joining the cast, many other exciting people are going to be a part of this fantastic series. Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie are all part of the cast. While most of the roles are still unknown as of yet, Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse are expected to reprise their prequel roles as Owen and Beru. Although it is unclear yet how their roles will be shown in the series and how much they will be a part of it.

In a recent interview on StarWars.com, Hayden Christensen talks about his excitement about coming back to reprise his prequel role, in the role of Darth Vader of course.

"It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker. Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them… It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back."

Deborah Chow helmed two episodes of the much loved The Mandalorian: “Chapter 3: The Sin” and “Chapter 7: The Reckoning.” She will be directing all of the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series.

During the Disney Investor Day live-stream back in December, when Disney and Lucasfilm announced that they were in pre-production/production for multiple new Star Wars series, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy also announced that there will be two other new Star Wars series that will tie in with the already released The Mandalorian. These are Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic, both of which are still in pre-production and slated to come out in the next couple of years. In addition to 2023's Rogue Squadron movie, there will also be a new Star Wars film, still untitled, directed by Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok. Somewhere along the way, there will be an animated TV movie titled A Droid Story. The Disney Investor Day also shared footage from the new animated show The Bad Batch, coming out May 4th of this year. And they gave fans a glimpse at the upcoming Rogue One prequel series, Andor, which will follow Cassian Andor’s story. On top of that, we will also get the anime-inspired anthology series Star Wars: Visions. And of course, the end of The Mandalorian teased The Book of Boba Fett, coming this December.

With all the announcements of new series and movies in the Star Wars universe, the one that most fans seem to be excited about at the moment is the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The series does not have a release date quite yet, but it is currently slated for a 2022 release onto Disney+.
