Falladin
Once upon a time in a Land named Nod, there was a man, and he was very odd. Very very odd. You see, this was long long ago, before medieval times, before the crusades, before the year of our Lord. Nephilm were present on the earth, and it was a strange place back then. Beasts of all sorts, shapes and sizes walked about. It was survival.
The land of Nod was a magical place. It was told some years before a tiny planet collided with the earth, giving this land great Magical properties. This man I speak of, was magical. Well first, he doesn’t have eyes, but can see. He tells all sorts of fortunes to people, and they come true. He also can manipulate the fortunes based on his mood. It’s best not to make him angry.
He lived at the bottom of a nearby well; People in the village nearby traveled far and wide to receive blessings from this man, while some stayed far away. His name was ancient, his name was mystical, his name had power. His name was Falladin.
A little girl stumbled upon a well to call his name. Her family was poor and running out of food. There was war in her country. Her mother was dying and her father passed 6 months earlier. Her and her older sister lived in a cottage nearby and gathered food each day to cook.
She called deep into the well,
“Days of old, may my days be long
From cold my fingers have turned blue
Lord Falladin, Lord Falladin
Tell my fortune
Make my wish come true
If you give me many blessings
I will pledge my heart to you.”
The wind howled down deep into the well,
“Who does disturb my sleep” asked Falladin,
“Tis I, dear lord”, uttered the girl, “ I have asked for your blessings. I humbly ask for your…”
And just like that, gold coins started to uproot from the ground like dandelions.
“Take only what you need” he hissed, “ So long as your heart remains as pure as this gold, you will never run out of the money you carry.” She grabbed as much as she could fit into her tiny apron and ran back to the cottage. She told her older sister of the money she received so the next day, her sister visited the well.
She called,
“Days of old may my days be rich
I long to become Queen
I have been tortured long enough
I long for finer things
Lord Faladdin Lord Faladdin
Tell my fortune
Make my wish come true
If you give me many blessings
I will pledge my heart to you.”
And just like that, a crown emerged from the ground like a vine, filled with rubies, emeralds and sapphire, as magnificent as the God given sun.
“Rule as generously as you received “ he hissed, “For in so doing your will keep your crown.”
As soon as the young girl put on the crown, a carriage appeared with white horses and a driver to take her away into the city “
The younger sister waited for the older a long while at the cottage, and when she didn’t show past sunset she headed to the well.
“Lord Falladin, are you there”
Falladin grumbled, “I am…”
“Did my sister come to visit you?” She asked.
“Oh, you mean your majesty the Queen,” he snarled, “she has and has left for the castle”
“How can this be?!” She cried angrily, “She doesn’t deserve to be Queen! I would make a better Queen than she….How can I take the throne?”
“Is this your wish?” Falladin asked her, “What you wish is not pure of heart..”
“I do, I want the crown for myself!” the girl proclaimed.
“But what about the money you have received?” Falladin asked.
“Who needs money when I can be Queen,”
“You’re right,” Falladin laughed.
The money in the girls apron started to morph back into dirt, and it became nighttime. Her wealth had disappeared right before her eyes because of her haughty jealous heart. A sound bellowed from the well.”
“Ask for only what you need and be thankful for all you receive. For as Falladin giveth, he also take away. “
The girl lamented and walked back into the cottage, but not before throwing a large stone in the well to crush the wizard below for her misfortune..
The next morning, her sister, now Queen came to her old cottage to take her sister to the new kingdom, but when she arrived it was smashed and covered in stones. The younger girl was crushed inside the cottage that very night, never to be seen again.
