Jocasta Nu may not be a Star Wars fan favorite. She is a canon Jedi Master known to the community due to her appearance as the Chief Librarian in the Jedi Archives in Attack of the Clones and the i. While what we know of her is quite limited, she did much more behind the scenes to benefit both the Republic and the Rebellion.

We know Jocasta Nu as the Chief Librarian who told Obi-Wan Kenobi that Kamino did not exist as it was not in the Jedi Archives. This was later proven wrong by a youngling. This is the only time we see her in the films. She returned in the Clone Wars series for a few story arcs including the Cad Bane heist, Ashoka losing her lightsaber in the archives, and Master Sifo-Diyas’ disappearance. That is all we really see of her in canon. She is a rather minor character and not one who we would have thought to have any future after Order 66. However, the Star Wars universe is not always so predictable.

Survived Order 66

Jocasta Nu survived Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi Temple, much to the surprise of the Grand Inquisitor. Despite her weak physical stature and lack of combat expertise displayed, she somehow survived and went into hiding. She would work to recover some of the knowledge from the destroyed Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Attempted To Start A Jedi School

After escaping the Jedi purge of Order 66, Jocasta Nu attempted to start a secret school to train future Jedi. With the destruction of the Jedi Temple and the Jedi Order, this would have key in preserving the Jedi knowledge. Jocasta had extensive knowledge of the information and holocrons contained within the Jedi Archives in addition to a list of Force-sensitive children at the time of Order 66. Unfortunately, her attempt was halted by the Empire.

Died At Hands Of Darth Vader

In Jocasta Nu’s attempt to save the Jedi Order and recover holocrons from the ruins of the Jedi Temple, she met her match in a battle with Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor. Determined to wipe out the entire Jedi Order, Emperor Palpatine dispatched Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor to hunt down Jocasta Nu. In her attempt to obtain the holocron with the list of Force-sensitive children, she encountered Vader. She attempted suicide, but was foiled by Vader. He would later kill her. Vader did destroy the list of Force-sensitive children after Jocasta informed him of what Emperor Palpatine would do with it.

Helped Luke Rebuild The Jedi Order

Although Jocasta Nu perished at Vader’s hands long before the rise of the Rebellion, she tried to protect and establish the future of the Jedi Order. Her efforts helped Luke Skywalker re-establish the Jedi Order and the Jedi Academy later down the line. Her work in collecting Jedi artifacts and maintaining the Jedi Archives assisted Luke in rebuilding the Order after the Battle of Endor. He even saw her messages in some of the holocrons he found.

Her Fate Differed In Legends

In Legends, her fate differed from the canon comics that depicted her death by Vader in the time after Order 66. In Legends, specifically the 2009 Dark Horse comic book Star Wars: Purge: Seconds to Die, Jocasta Nu was killed by Anakin Skywalker during his initial purge of the Jedi Temple when Order 66 was activated. He struck her down when she refused to let him enter the Archives.

Jocasta Nu may be a relatively minor character in the Star Wars universe, but her role extends beyond the films. Her survival of Order 66 allows her to play an important part in the survival of the Jedi Order long after her death.
