Ewan McGregor Does Obi-Wan Costume Tests On The Set Of 'The Mandalorian'

Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to on the television side of things. It already goes without saying that The Mandalorian has been highly successful since it premiered along with the Disney+ launch. It is about to have its second season next week. As far as further live-action shows, we have the Cassian Andor series to look forward to, but most fans are probably more excited for the return of Ewan McGregor for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which has been described as a limited series that will last one season.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is such a legendary and beloved character. First portrayed by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy, fans got to see a younger take of the character in the prequel trilogy as he was portrayed by Ewan McGregor. The last time that people saw Ewan McGregor wearing the Obi-Wan Kenobi outfit on the big screen was in 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It is astonishing to believe that it has been so long since the release of that film. In any case, fans are ready to see McGregor in the outfit again. He talked about having the costume on the set of The Mandalorian:

"It was funny walking on set because it was a lot of The Mandalorian crew and I walked on, and it was a big moment, I walked into the dressing room and there were my beige cloaks and my belts and boots and it was like, oh my God, it was my old costume, it was amazing."

Given that The Mandalorian sets were pretty much up and ready, it makes sense that McGregor would try on the costume in that already made Star Wars environment. It is somewhat of a crossover in the behind the scenes sense.

Ewan McGregor has made it no secret that he is very enthusiastic about the upcoming series, which has been a long time coming:

"I really am very excited about it. It’s been a long time coming. I mean we’ve been talking about doing it, Lucasfilm and Disney, I dunno for four, five, maybe more years and it’s just taken a while to come to fruition. I am excited about the fact that it’s a series as opposed to a movie, it gives us more space, and mainly I am excited about it because of The Mandalorian series which I just thought was really good, and we’re going to adopt some of that technology that they utilized in that filming and I’m working with Deborah Chow who directed some Mandalorian. I’m really excited about working with her, I think she’s really good. We did a couple of tests. When we were going to make a film earlier we did some testing and it was great working with her."

It sounds like McGregor is very happy with how things are progressing with the show. Given that it has been in development for possibly over five years, he has probably needed to implement that practice of patience that Obi-Wan Kenobi himself is always talking about, and so have we. Given that things seem to be going smoothly, it is a safe bet that our collective patience will pay off. McGregor has played the character very well before, and he will probably show how the character has changed since he lost his best friend, as well as how he is on his way to becoming the Alec Guinness interpretation of Ben Kenobi. The Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series is set to begin production in March 2021 and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2022.
