EA And Lucasfilm Games Announce Three New 'Star Wars' Games Are Coming

And We Cannot Wait!

Star Wars and video games have gone hand in hand for many years. Many fans remember playing a Star Wars video game when they were younger, be it the original Battlefront, Empire at War, Republic Commando, Dark Forces, or the Rogue Squadron games. Now it seems that we may be adding a bit more to the growing roster of Star Wars video games in the very near future.

EA Games announced that Respawn, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, will be making not one, not two, but three whole new Star Wars games that are already in some form of development. Respawn is planning on releasing these games as part of the continuing development of new games by the Star Wars franchise. The company will not be focusing on just one genre, but rather on a wide array of games too. This will be an overall boon for the brand.

Genre Of The Games

The best thing about this announcement is the sheer variety of Star Wars games that they are announcing. One will be a first-person shooter, the other a real-time strategy game, and of course, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2.

Expanding into different genres of games is important for the Star Wars gaming brand. There will be Double-A and small-scale games in addition to Triple-A games as well. This will help increase output, and also give a wide pallet of games for all to enjoy. It can only be a good thing for Star Wars games to diversify as players will have more options to choose from and try different things.

Not every Star Wars gamer is the same, just as not every Star Wars fan is the same. They like different things and prefer different options. No fandom is a monolith, after all. That means different strokes for different people, or in this case, different playstyles. This is important in attracting a wide range of audiences. In addition, it would be nice to have some different types of games as well.

The first-person shooter game being planned, for example, does not seem to be a continuation of the Battlefront series but more of its own unique game type. Perhaps, it is going to be more in the vein of the Republic Commando video games, which were one of the more famous first-person shooter games at the time.

The real-time strategy game is also a fun addition. The last big title in the genre was Empire at War, which is something Star Wars fans have been yearning for quite some time.

Of course, it seems many of these games may be far off with the exception of  Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, which has been in development for some time. It will take a while before we see the release of these games, but that does not mean that there will not be any new games on the way. This can only be a good thing moving forward.

The Future

Star Wars and gaming go hand in hand, and it has been something that the new era of Star Wars has been lacking lately. Games are a fun way to immerse oneself within the Star Wars universe. They allow people to partake in battles and adventures, to really get the feel of being in Star Wars, and be a part of it. Gaming is one of the few ways that one can get this feeling.

Hopefully, the Star Wars franchise will have many games to come in the future of all types of genres. For the galaxy far, far away is vast, and deserves to have a lot of fun as well.
