Dubbing, inspirations: YouTube dopes with artificial intelligence

The world after. Over the past few months, Internet users have seen a proliferation of sites that make it easy to generate or transform video using artificial intelligence tools. But until now, these have been isolated from the major publishing platforms. On Thursday, YouTube announced the arrival, in the coming weeks or months, of new tools for people who publish videos on the Google-owned platform.

AI-generated wallpapers and tips

The first - and perhaps for now the most "gimmicky" - of these functions is the "dream screen", a video-generating AI. Gimmicky, because for the time being, it can only create backgrounds that will be used for "shorts", the short videos offered by YouTube. In other words, it will be possible to type a query to see an animated wallpaper corresponding to what you want, and film yourself in front of it. YouTube has not specified whether it intends to extend this technology to other uses, which could prove to be more global on the platform. For the time being, this "dream screen" is only available to a few users, and should be rolled out gradually.

Next up is a search field within the YouTube Studio platform, reserved for content creators. This should enable "creative brainstorming based on AI".

In concrete terms, videographers will be able to type in a generic idea for a video, and be suggested types of content and video subjects to develop their audience. This function, which will also be rolled out next year, even promises to receive advice based "on your audience's centers of interest", i.e. knowing what people who watch your videos watch, to guide your editorial choices.

Last but not least, YouTube is launching AI-generated dubbing.

For the time being, only certain designers have access to "Aloud", in test form, and only in two languages, Spanish and Portuguese, translated from English. Eventually, however, the roll-out will include "European languages, Hindi, Indonesian and Japanese". However, YouTube does not give a launch date for this function, stating: "We will keep you informed of this expansion in due course".

In addition to these new features, the company announced the arrival of YouTube Create, a mobile application designed for those who create videos on their mobiles. Launched in beta on Android (Google's operating system) and available on iOS in early 2024, this application is in direct opposition to CapCut, TikTok's editing application, both in terms of interface and available video format, which is essentially vertical - a format that YouYube offers with its "Shorts".

Google unveiled its new products at a dedicated event, Made on YouTube, in New York. These tools are designed to assist creators, helping them to organize themselves more effectively and save time, with the ultimate aim of increasing their audience.

The first innovation presented concerns Shorts, those short videos in vertical format that we like to scroll through on our smartphones, in the vein of Reels on Instagram. Here, artificial intelligence will be able to generate video sequences from text. If you type "a panda having coffee", the AI will be able to show you an animation corresponding to your expectations, which you can then decide to put in front of or in the background of your Short.

On the other hand, creators will be able to benefit from video ideas and shot suggestions relating to any keyword, based on what their audience is used to watching on YouTube. Even more spectacularly, creators will be able to manage content in multiple languages thanks to Aloud, an automatic dubbing tool. However, there's still no question of cloning the youtuber's voice, as the performance is performed by a synthesized voice. Finally, the Creator Music tool will enable them to find the ideal soundtrack for each of their videos, with even the possibility, in certain cases, of choosing only instrumental versions of the songs proposed. The YouTube Create mobile application will also help them quickly edit and produce any video from their smartphone.
