Disney Confirms 'The Mandalorian' Season 2 Episode Titles Will Carry On Naming Convention

The Numbering Continues

This past week, Star Wars fans were delighted by the sight of the teaser trailer for The Mandalorian season 2. It gave fans a glimpse of what was to come without giving too much away. People have been speculating about the different shots within the trailer and what it could all mean. But of course, we will not have the full picture until we see the whole season, the first episode of which premieres on Disney+ October 30.

We are not too far away now from the arrival of the season 2 premiere. While we do not know what exactly to expect from the premiere, it appears that we have an idea of what to expect about the episode naming convention. Via Jordan Maison on Twitter, we have learned that Disney is titling the season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian “Chapter 9.”

“The Mandalorian Season Premiere

“Chapter 9”

The Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.”

This does not tell us a whole lot, really. The description sounds like it could describe the premise of the show in general. We know that the premiere is titled “Chapter 9,” but we do not have an episode subtitle in addition to that, as we have had for “Chapter 2: The Child,” for example. When season 1 started, we simply saw “Chapter 1” on the screen with no such subtitle. Perhaps more could be added to the episode title as it draws nearer, or perhaps the intention is to mirror the structure of season 1. We do not know for sure.

Another interesting thing to note is that the episode title indicates that it is the ninth chapter of the series. There is no reset in the numbering. While some shows can feel like each season is one “book” (as has been the case with Avatar: The Last Airbender, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and The Dragon Prince), it seems like The Mandalorian may be treated as one long continuous book. We have heard that season 2 picks up right after the season 1 finale. Without a gap in between, perhaps the episodes may flow more continuously than previously expected. And this is just me speculating, but I cannot help wondering whether there is an endgame and perhaps a set of pre-planned chapters in mind. If this is all like one long book, then it would make sense to have an idea of where the story is going, rather than treat each season as its own thing.

Whatever happens next season, we are probably in for a ride. Viewers are already invested in Din Djarin’s quest to figure out what to do about The Child. With Moff Gideon on their tail and wielding the Darksaber, there is sure to be danger around many corners. We do not have to wait too long to see where the series takes the characters.
