Check Out These New Looks at Lightsabers Belonging to Yoda, Anakin, and More!

"That lightsaber was Luke's. And his father's before him. And now, it calls to you."

When Rey held what was once Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber for the first time, audiences everywhere were aware of its history. After all, it was the first lightsaber that we ever saw, when Luke wielded it in A New Hope. The lightsaber was groundbreaking at the time, a weapon unlike any that audiences had ever seen. Now, over three decades later, we have seen a myriad of lightsaber variations, from Darth Maul's double-bladed red lightsaber in The Phantom Menace, to Ahsoka Tano's two shorter sabers featured in The Clone Wars, to Kylo Ren's crossguard lightsaber first seen in The Force Awakens.

This is all a lot to keep up with for fans of all kinds, which is why Lucasfilm's latest project is so exciting. This new book is Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection, an all-inclusive guide to lightsabers of all kinds featured throughout the Star Wars universe.

The cover (pictured above) features four sabers, belonging to Mace Windu, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Leia Organa. StarWars.com also released several spreads featuring important lightsabers throughout the series.

The first featured saber is none other than the Anakin Skywalker's, passed down through generations of Jedi throughout the nine-film series. The spread tracks the saber's journey both on-screen and behind the scenes, up to its final appearance at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.

Next, we have sabers with which some fans may be a bit less familiar: Asajj Ventress's dual blades. Ventress was Count Dooku's personal assassin during the Clone Wars, and as a Separatist military leader, she used these blades both as single blades and a double-bladed staff. The spread discusses the importance of the weapons to Ventress's identity as a warrior, and their journey throughout The Clone Wars series.

Yoda's iconic green saber also receives a spread, giving an up close look at one of the smaller sabers in the franchise. The saber has a shorter hilt and blade, which perfectly match the stature of its owner.

Finally, we have what is perhaps one of the most unique sabers: Mace Windu's purple lightsaber. This is one of the only purple sabers featured in Star Wars, and the spread includes the story of how Samuel L. Jackson convinced George Lucas to let him use a purple lightsaber, first seen in Attack of the Clones.

In addition to these four blades, the book will also feature a section about the Darksaber (most recently seen in the season finale of last year's The Mandalorian), as well as a section discussing a new blade from The High Republic.

Fans will also get a closer look at Ben Solo's Jedi lightsaber and Ezra Bridger's blaster-saber. Also to be featured are hilts from the following characters: Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Kylo Ren, Rey, Ahsoka Tano, and more.

This book provides an exciting look at some sabers rarely discussed in other Star Wars reference books. I am most excited to get a more in-depth description of Ben Solo's lightsaber, seen only briefly in The Last Jedi and currently sold at Galaxy's Edge. This will also give fans who may not have been exposed to all areas of Star Wars canon a chance to learn about weapons in the universe they might not have ever seen before.

The book will also provide some exciting context for weapons featured in upcoming material, like season 2 of The Mandalorian as well as the new The High Republic multimedia project (which consists of books and comics). We cannot wait to see what the new featured saber looks like and get a sneek peak at the era to come.
