Boba Fett's 'Real' Name Given In 'The Bad Batch' And No One Seemed To Notice

Back in May 2021, when The Bad Batch premiered on Disney, we expected to follow Clone Force 99 as the protagonists of the series. However, in the series premiere, we were introduced to the character of Omega, a young female medical assistant on Kamino working for Nala Se, voiced by New Zealand actress Michelle Ang. Over the course of the next nine episodes, the Bad Batch and Omega are pursued by the Kaminoans by means of bounty hunters Fennec Shand and Cad Bane in attempts to retrieve Omega and bring her back to Kamino. It is later revealed that Kaminoan leader Lama Su has hired Bane to bring Omega back and extract her DNA and dispose of her. On the other hand, Nala Se has hired Fennec Shand to bring Omega back alive.

During episode nine titled “Bounty Lost,” Tech reveals why the Kaminoans are after Omega, more specifically her DNA:

“She’s more valuable than we realized… She has pure first generation DNA. All clones were created from a host named Django Fett. While our genetic structure was modified for growth acceleration and obedience, Omega is a pure genetic replication… To my knowledge there’s only one other [to exist], a male clone codenamed Alpha, later referred to as Boba. Since he disappeared at the start of the war, that makes Omega the soul living source of Fett’s raw genetic material.”

So there you have it, Boba Fett’s original name given to him by the Kaminoans was “Alpha.” It is a small detail in the grand context of the Star Wars universe, but one that creates numerous questions. How many other attempts at pure replication did the Kaminoans try? How come they are no longer alive? How is Omega a female if she is a pure replication? Will clone brother and sister Boba and Omega ever meet in The Bad Batch? During the season one finale of season one of The Bad Batch “Kamino Lost,” Nala Se ends up at what appears to be a medical cloning facility on Mount Tantiss after the Empire destroys Tipoca City on Kamino. During the scene on Mount Tantiss, one of the Imperial scientists is wearing a similar uniform to Doctor Pershing from The Mandalorian. Does this mean that Omega and the Bad Batch will ultimately give us a backstory on the Empire's cloning attempts that lead to Palpatine's return in Rise of Skywalker? Is this the facility where Snoke was potentially created?

One of the additional threads we are looking to follow up on in season two of The Bad Batch is the fate of the clone trooper Hauser and the potential for a clone uprising. During the season one finale, Crosshair also begins his redemptive arc by saving Omega from drowning, but he ultimately chooses to stay with the Empire despite them treating him as just another soldier. The second season will likely continue this arc for Crosshair and we may potentially see him make a return to the Batch or perhaps work as an inside man. There is also a small arc featuring Rebels character Hera Syndulla. I think it is definitely possible we start to see even more overlap between the two shows and potentially even some interaction with characters from Solo or Rogue One.

These are all interesting questions that we hope to be answered in season two of The Bad Batch, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2022. Hopefully, a premiere date is announced at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration and we will be on a path to answering those questions, exploring those theories, and learning more about Omega and Boba’s interlinked past.
