Bo-Katan Actress Chimes In On Possibility Of Mandalorian Spinoff Series

Would You Want Something Like This?

The arrival of Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian was one of the things about season 2 that was generally well received. It helped that she was portrayed by Katee Sackhoff, who voiced the character in The Clone Wars and Rebels and looks enough like her. (Or perhaps, rather, the character looks a lot like her, as it is not unheard of for animated characters to be modeled after their voice actors.) Throughout the two animated shows, fans saw her connections to other Mandalorians and how she plays into the journey of the Darksaber, which later appeared in the live-action series in the hands of Moff Gideon. Season 2 left matters of the Darksaber on a cliffhanger note, leading to speculation from fans that Din Djarin may have to go up against Bo-Katan as they deal with matters that may pertain more to Mandalore.

Last week, Katee Sackhoff was interviewed by ComicBook.com, and she brought up her thoughts on the idea of a Bo-Katan spin-off, saying that the character fits so well in The Mandalorian that she may not necessarily need a spin-off:

"It's an interesting thing, because I love Bo and, selfishly, as the performer that gets to play her, I'm like, 'Sure, let's do this."

"But at the same time, Bo fits very beautifully in the Mando world. That's not to say that she couldn't have shown up in these other things, but she fits beautifully as this character that is in that world right now. And it would just be selfish of me to want more."

It seems that Sackhoff is very content to simply have Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian and not in any other live-action shows. However, she did add what type of Bo-Katan story she would like to see, alluding to where in the timeline she would want it to be.

"I will say that if they were going to do something like that, not to take myself out of it, but I would love to see early Bo, which ... there's not enough Botox in the world to take me back there."

Sackhoff has talked about how she would love to see Pre Vizsla make the jump to live-action. Given that he can only appear in the Clone Wars or earlier, a potential TV series about Bo-Katan's early years would be a place in which an appearance from him would fit pretty well. As for Sackhoff's comments about needing the character to look younger, Lucasfilm has shown that they are willing to de-age characters with CGI. Luke Skywalker was the most recent example in The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Some people loved it, but others (myself included) thought it was less convincing and would have been content with a complete recast.

In any case, it appears that a Bo-Katan spin-off is not an option, at least in the immediate future. Last December saw a bunch of upcoming live-action Star Wars shows announced, so Lucasfilm is pretty busy and has a lot on its plate at the moment. However, given that we are getting a show like The Book of Boba Fett, I would love to have a show titled The Book of Bo-Katan. The alliteration is just too good, but there is also room to tell more stories with the character. In the meantime, we are sure to see more of her in the third season of The Mandalorian, which is expected to come out sometime in 2022. It may be a long wait, but time will fly and people will be able to see more of Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze.
