Black Goop Chapter 1 - People Places breakdown

The Task Force-

A task force created by the president of the US in response to the threat of covid-19. Originally this was just a panel of scientists and professors to help create additional policies dealing with Covid 19. After the population was hit, the president gave unilateral control of domestic affairs to the Covid 19 task force. This control would circumvent all checks and balances that are normal with government organizations. With this major satellite corporations such as Hughes net, Dish, At&t and Elon musk’s StarLink. In addition to major satellites companies running drones such as amazon delivery network would be taken control over by the task force. This network of satellites ,drones, NSA and FBI created the ultimate control mechanism for the remaining US citizens. This all powerful control was to a greater extent than George Orwells ever imagined in his book 1984.

Traces’ father-

Traces’ father was an inventor and programmer. He used to tell Trace that anything can be built with enough time and effort. This was demonstrated by the creation of many gadgets including a toning built like the slendertone, A vacuum bot much like the roomba, 3d printers, peltier cooler personal heater and aircon. When asked by any family or friends why build them if you can just buy a built one, his answer was always because I can. The final project that he was working on, with trace assisting, was nanites. The construction process utilized an AI designed and programmed by him. He never got to see the finished nanites in action before he passed away.

Quarantine Enforcers-

Agents that were in charge of hauling people with covid to the proper isolation camps. They also were responsible for taking any children that had both parents pass away to reeducation camps.

Nanites -

These are nanoscale robots that in another age would revolutionize construction and fabrication. Each nanite runs off thermal and photonic light causing them to be black and cold. They are designed with a similar structure as an arachnid with 8 legs and a maneuverable head. Trace integrated a mesh processing architecture allowing each nanite to be part of a larger processing unit. These larger processing units are Clusters of a million nanites and run an AI named Ellie who was created by traces father.

Ellie -

The AI designed a trace father to help him in case anything had happened to him. It originally ran on the lab's supercomputer but with adjustments now runs off nanite clusters and the Cluster controller which is an upgraded galaxy smart watch.

Cluster controller-

The control device for nanites that host Ellie primary code. It is networked with each cluster to form a fluid supercomputer. This supercomputer expands its resources and capabilities with each additional nanite cluster added. Traces implemented several backups in case that the controller was destroyed; they live within the supercomputer, a portion of the nanites and the Nanite storage device.

Nanite Storage Device-

It is a backpack that has been upgraded to act as a backup Cluster controller. Though this isn’t the primary function it is primarily designed to hold nanite clusters and provide a construction site for more nanites. Inside the structure of the backpack is continually changing. If a surplus of resources and space are available then the Storage Device becomes a mini nanite factoring. This is a very efficient process since any cluster can use its construction and repair functionality to produce another nanite.

Black Goop-

This is the term for all the Nanite Clusters. The Goop is run by the AI Ellie and grants it many abilities. The first ability is Molecular Deconstruction, which is the ability to break down matter into molecular level. The second ability is Construction of known objects, this will provide the user with a bill of materials measured in mm3. The third ability is Repair which combines the Molecular Deconstruction and Construction abilities to repair objects of known construction.

The Lab -

This is located underneath traces house and was built by his father. Trace has many memories of helping his father build different projects down in this lab.

Reeducation Camps-

These are camps set up for children who have lost all living relatives. The camps would teach children to become productive members of society and to follow the government's rules without question.

Covid Quarantine camps-

These are camps that are setup for a 14 day quarantine for citizens who have positive covid results. The number of citizens entering the camps seems to far outweigh the number who are released back into society. These camps are normally positioned close to Reeducation camps. The reason for this is if all adults are in quarantine then the kids are sent to the reeducation camps. It is unknown but very unlikely that even when the adults are released that the children are sent back with them.
