Twin brother of Princess Leia and son of Darth Vader aka Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker beginning in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Skywalker is known as the Jedi Master who was instrumental in defeating the Galactic Empire and the Sith during the Galactic Civil War. After the war with his nascent Jedi Order in ruins, Luke Skywalker prepared to enter into a self-imposed exile and was absent from galactic affairs. His life story became a thing of myth and legend in certain corners of the galaxy. One of the most influential people in the entire galaxy, Luke Skywalker's accomplishments would be remembered for decades.

Poe Dameron was a pilot who served as a commander in the New Republic and, later, the Resistance during its conflict with the First Order. Dameron followed in his late mother's footsteps and became a pilot, serving the New Republic Starfleet as the commander of Rapier Squadron, but grew disillusioned with the Republic's inaction to the First Order's violations of the Galactic Concordance. Dameron defected to the Resistance. In his service to the Resistance, Dameron became one of General Leia Organa's most trusted operatives, and quickly rose through the ranks Dameron flew under the callsign of Black Leader while piloting his specialized T-70 X-wing fighter, Black One.

Kylo Ren was a Force warrior and a former Jedi trainee under his uncle, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker before Ren destroyed Skywalker's attempt to restore the Jedi Order and became an apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke of the First Order. He was given the name Ben Solo by his mother Princess Leia Organa and father Han Solo. Due to Ben feeling abandoned by his parents he was exploited by the Supreme Leader, who tempted him to the Dark Side of the Force.

After being seduced to the Dark Side, Ben killed his fellow Jedi students, and became one of the Knights of Ren, earning the moniker of "Jedi Killer" amongst the First Order ranks. He idolized his grandfather, the fallen Sith Lord Darth Vader, and hoped to finish what Vader started: the elimination of the Jedi.

A woman of many colors, Leia Organa was a former princess of Alderaan, a member of the Imperial Senate, a leader in the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the New Republic, and the founding general of the Resistance. Through it all, she became instrumental in the defeat of the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War and led the fight against the First Order. Leia is the twin sister of Luke Skywalker and the daughter of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala.

After her mother died and her father fell to the Dark Side of the Force to become Darth Vader, Leia was adopted by the House of Organa. She took the place of her adoptive father, Bail Organa, in the Senate and helped lead the fight against the Empire.

Former First Order stormtrooper, aka Finn, was considered one of the group's best stormtroopers before he deserted them to join the Resistance in their struggle against the First Order. Having left the First Order, he took on the name "Finn" at the suggestion of Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, based on his stormtrooper designation FN-2187, having never been given an actual name. After leaving the First Order, he reluctantly became involved in the droid BB-8's quest to rejoin the Resistance and escaped the desert planet Jakku with BB-8 and a female scavenger named Rey.

Rey grew up alone in the wastes of the desert planet Jakku, hoping for the day her family would return to her. While honing her skills as a scavenger and a warrior, her life changed forever when she encountered BB-8, a Resistance astromech droid and a stormtrooper named Finn who carried information about Skywalker's whereabouts and information about new hope to a galaxy on the brink of war.

After escaping Jakku with Finn and BB-8 and later teaming with Han Solo and Chewbacca, Rey finally ventured to the lost world of Ahch-Tu where she found the legendary Jedi Master Skywalker. During their encounter, she presented him with his father's lightsaber as a sign of the only hope the galaxy had left: the return of the Jedi.

Former captain of the Millennium Falcon and smuggler for Jabba the Hutt, Han Solo later became a leader in the Alliance to Restore the Republic. His fortune seemed to have changed when he agreed to charter Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO to Alderaan, but he became caught up in the rebellion against the Empire and, after helping Princess Leia Organa escape from the Death Star. Solo fought with the Rebellion for a number of years afterward, taking part in numerous operations and battles against the Empire. During the early time in the Resistance, Solo wed Leia Organa and fathered Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren. He was an instrumental figure in the defeat of the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens we find General Hux nearly thirty years after the end of the Galactic Civil War, during plans to recover a map to find Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi, on Jakku. Kylo Ren and General Hux led the search for the map, which they later were unable to locate. To prevent the return of the Jedi and to eliminate the Resistance, which, under the command of General Leia Organa, emerged to combat the First Order, Snoke allowed General Hux to use the Starkiller weapon against the Republic's capital world of Hosnian Prime. The Resistance was left without military support from the Republic, so Hux soon turned the weapon towards the Resistance base on D'Qar. Before he could destroy them, however, an attack squadron led by Commander Poe Dameron—with ground support from Han Solo, former stormtrooper Finn, and the Jakku scavenger Rey—destroyed Starkiller Base, forcing Hux and his troops to flee.

The Guavian Death Gang was a criminal organization in operation roughly thirty years after the Battle of Endor. The gang was driven out of the Core Worlds due to unrest in the galactic underworld after the collapse of the Galactic Empire. They employed deadly soldiers in high-impact red armor. The gang's red-armored foot soldiers were recruited only after swearing loyalty to the gang in exchange for a cybernetic augmentation. Their armor is equipped with a mechanical reservoir that acts as a second heart, injecting a secret combination of chemicals into the soldiers' bloodstream, giving them a boost of speed and aggression. They communicate via high-frequency data streams transmitted from the disk in their faceplates.

ME-8D9, also known as Emmie, is an ancient protocol droid who resided in Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana for many years. Once known to be an assassin, the droid later served criminals as a translator. Although it's origins are unknown, some believe it began its life within the Jedi Order. Emmie is a free droid who has no masters but was happy to help Maz run the castle, which served as a pub and hotel for travelers.

Captain Snap Wexley is a respected recon pilot in the Blue Squadron of the Resistance who helped fight during the Battle of Takodana and the assault on Starkiller Base. Wexley earned a reputation as the Resistance Starfighter Corps' best recon flier and has a keen eye for trouble. He was also known as a highly skilled pilot who could easily evade enemy starships.

Snowtroopers are a variant of the stormtrooper who appeared approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor. The latest generation of cold weather assault stormtroopers, snowtroopers wear advanced insulated armor and helmets that reduced the glare of icy terrain. Many of them were wiped out during the battle of the Starkiller Base when it was attacked by the Resistance.

More than a millennium old, we find Maz Kanata in the ancient castle on the planet Takodana. Kanata gained a reputation as a 'pirate queen' by giving permission to traveling smugglers to reside in her home—as long as they honored her ban against politics and war. Kanata spent centuries traversing the galaxy, collecting antiquity and novelties which she kept inside the vaults of her castle. One remarkable item was the lightsaber owned by Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and later wielded by Skywalker's son, Luke.

BB-8 is a BB-series astromech droid who appeared approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor. It had a dome head, similar to that of R2 series astromech droids, with the bulk of its body made up of a ball on which the droid's head rolled. BB-8 is mostly white, with some silver and orange on its body, as well as a black photoreceptor. The droid belonged to Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, whom he accompanied during his flights on his T-70 X-wing fighter. After being separated from Dameron during a fight with Stormstroopers, BB-8 is found trekking through the desert alone for several hours with a map of Luke Skywalker's location Dameron gave it to hide. BB-8 eventually encountered a Teedo, who proceeded to capture him, but another scavenger, Rey, intervened and convinced the Teedo to leave BB-8 alone.
