Behind the Waterfall

Colourful and strange

Feeling the sharp pain down her back, she’s running through her house, towards the back door, being the smartest move she could make. Making it in just enough time, she throws open the back door and without a millisecond of hesitation, she runs through. Only her ‘backyard’ was not her backyard, it was somewhere completely different, not even remote similarities to her backyard. All of a sudden, without notice, she starts falling, and falling, for what seemed like hours. What the hell did she fall down?

She stopped falling, no landing, so she felt like she was still falling, exceedingly confused at what was going on, she stopped, took deep breathes, pinched herself and then just sat down and looked around her. She believes she’s in some sort of cave, as she noticed one side of the cave is darker than the other, though all the way through it, there were also patterns on the sides, like a pattern of white light strings or something.

She came to the conclusion that sitting down doing nothing will not get her anywhere so she decided she’d take a chance on the lighter side. The further into the lighter side she walked, the whiter and brighter it would get, not necessarily blinding, but definitely bright. Getting to the point where all she can see is white, so she just decided to keep walking until she found something worth running to or from.

Past the light, she begins walking down a path, a pebble path, with stepping stones. These stepping stones, slowly changed colour with every movement, whether it be a step of a stone or the blink of an eye. The colours were vibrant red, green and purple, amongst colours never seen before, beautifully indescribable. All that was either side her, was 2 metre hedges with harmonizing plants, similar to flowers, roses perhaps, but not like any seen before. She finds herself in front of a waterfall, a silent yet beautiful waterfall, like sprinkling rain in the sun, gently squeezed together with a rainbow.

She felt as if she had to walk through it, though she wasn’t sure whether she should or not. She could always turn back, but, whatever was back there, she felt, was a lot worse than what she could ever find behind the waterfall. She walked through, and surprisingly, it was as if she had walked through the rays of the sun that had changed the colour of everything she was wearing. She stopped for a while, staring ahead, trying to anticipate what was to come.

Was this just a pathway that never ended or was it a pathway to something extraordinarily unseen and unheard of? There are too many possibilities to consider, so she just continues on the path behind the waterfall. This path was more like a grainy path, kind of like sand, though she couldn’t see what she was standing on as the ground was about 40cm high with some kind of colourful nebulous. She could fall off a cliff without much notice, yet she still continued, but slowly, just in case.

She felt something, lots of enticement, and she felt a sort of security, which pushed her to continue. What was waiting for her, she had no idea, but she was definitely eager to find out. Suddenly, the path and the fog seemed to end, though there were few signs of anything further; she felt, something, but whatever it was, she really believed it would be worth it. Without hesitation, she walked through the oval of, what she somehow felt to be the end of the beginning; of something.

She was in a space, a completely white space, so it was hard to know how big or small it was. She saw absolutely nothing but herself, and a bubble; a growing bubble. It got to the size of which seemed as big as her, if not bigger. It started to change colour, from blue, to green, to yellow, orange, to unseen colours; again. Then smaller bubbles begun coming off of it, lots and lots. There were so many, she could no longer see anything but colours around her. All of a sudden, they all just popped.

Now, she felt like she was somewhere a little more normal. A field, with a ring of trees, kind of acting like a fence. There were bushes in front of and behind the trees, with all sorts of colourful wildflowers. There were birds flying around, flying around the sun, that she was staring at, and she could because it wasn’t hurting her eyes or self at all. She noticed the sun started to get brighter and brighter; until everything was white again.

With an approximate ten metre radius, a ring had formed around her, a ring that was lava like, even steamy. Above her formed a ring with a radius of about one metre, of completely, clear water, at perfect temperature, which she knew as drops were lightly falling. The lava begun oozing up out of what was once a small crack, only seeming to slowly slide, or ooze, toward her direction. Normally she would have found this freaky, but this didn’t seem to faze her at all.

She started to feel quite dizzy, causing her to lay down; without a worry that lava was less than six metres away; and counting. Even she doesn’t know why, or what possessed her, but she asked the ring to protect her; then she fell asleep. She woke up, standing in another field, though there was nothing but grass, and two paths. One was a yellow path, the other was a blue path; preferring blue to yellow, she begun to follow the blue path. Though after a few steps, the next step she took, was as if she had stepped into a completely different dimension, absolutely everything around her changed in the blink of an eye.

Absolutely everything around her was like a colourful mist, she was standing on a purple path, which happened to be her favourite colour. Knowing this, made her feel an extreme happiness inside, she smiled and laughed for a while. Of all the colours she had seen and discovered in this journey, she’s standing on her favourite. This was not the only path, there were about six others with colours blue, green, orange, yellow, red and pink.

She still decided to walk along the purple path, she followed all the way down until she what seemed to be, hundreds of millions of squiggly lines, which didn’t take her any time to know they were all paths. She decided she would like to perhaps try her second favourite colour as a path. She stood on the red path for a second, then jumped straight back onto her original path. She thought she would like to try a few other paths, to see what they were like, some colours she liked and even her least desired colour.

Every time she stepped onto another path, she felt something different, but not one of them was as good as her original. Some feelings on some of the paths were really bad; so she decided to go back to her path and stick to it. She followed the path for what would feel like decades for us. She didn’t even notice the existence of time, she was too happy, she felt too good. All of a sudden, she started floating…really, really high.

She floated so high, that all paths were like the most colourful wave of an ocean that no human eye would ever see. To her surprise, she feels a comfortable, stable surface under her body, she’s lying down on it. She feels like she’s sinking into it, though she still feels like she’s still floating, perhaps what sleeping on a cloud would feel like. She closes her eyes, but she still sees what’s around her, which is the same, just misty wave-like colours. She just realises that the whole time she has not physically felt anything, in fact, she hasn’t even been breathing.
