How Might This Mystery Unfold?

WARNING: The following article might contain spoilers from The Mandalorian season 2 episode 5, “Chapter 13: The Jedi”

At the end of The Mandalorian season 1, The Armorer gave a task to Din Djarin to reunite The Child with his kind. Din Djarin tried to keep to this promise, and throughout The Mandalorian season 2, his search of other Mandalorians and Jedi have kept him busy. Finally, after the whole of season 1 and much of season 2, The Child’s name was revealed by the fan favorite Ahsoka Tano to be Grogu. Grogu was raised in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and was smuggled during the Great Jedi Purge. With this past revealing who Grogu was, Star Wars fans now have another important question: Where is Grogu from? No one knows which home planet Grogu came from.

Ahsoka Tano reveals that many masters trained Grogu during the years at the Jedi Temple. Since Grogu is 50 years old in 9 ABY, this means he has been around since 41 BBY. Meaning, Grogu was only 22 years old when the Jedi Order fell. This also explains how Grogu is pretty proficient in gearing the Force. After all, at a very young age, Jedi are taught to instruct ideology into the Order, and are recruited after a Jedi senses their new powers.

In this case, whoever smuggled or hid Grogu this whole time, possibly a Jedi, knew where he was born and where he lived before arriving at the Jedi Temple. This means that, sooner or later, the Jedi who did this to Grogu will be revealed, and his home planet will be mentioned. Star Wars fans across the galaxy have wondered, if this is the case, then why did they not return Grogu to his home? Is there any purposes to all this? Or Maybe the Jedi who brought him over is dead? And why was he sheltered by the Nikto mercenaries on Arvala-7? Maybe the former protector knew that Grogu has no home planet since he suppressed his powers and memory during the era of exile. Since it was speculated that Grogu has no home planet, it might be a mystery that extends to Yoda's species as well, as Djarin could not identify what species Grogu is or where is he from, let alone his home planet. Even in the films, we were actually never told Yoda's species or even what planet he was from. This also might explain why Yoda did not seek out his people after the fall of the Republic. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we see an explanation for the connection between Yoda and Dagobah, as well as the start of his ongoing communion with Qui-Gon Jinn. We learned the truth about why Yoda decided to make Dagobah as his new home.

The species and home planet of Grogu seems to be a well kept secret. It seems like we are going to have a big reveal sooner or later that will wow all of the Star Wars fans around the world, just as they were wowed by the appearance of Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano in this episode. If the former protector knew that Grogu has no home planet, it would make perfect sense that he was kept on the move and well hidden from the Empire. Or maybe the person who smuggled Grogu was not even a Jedi, but rather someone who did not know Grogu’s family or where he came from, knowing Grogu might have been around about 41 BBY. Then again, the protector surely had to know Grogu well enough to see his proficiency in the Force. Knowing Disney and Lucasfilm, there might be a twist of sorts regarding Grogu's heritage. We will just have to see.

The Mandalorian season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
