Are Gemini's Sluts?

An alternative love horoscope

I remember back in school when answering the innocent question, "What's your star sign." I would pipe up brightly, "Oh, I'm a Gemini." That's when faces would turn sour, and a girl would hiss the words, "That means you're two-faced!" (That's an all-girls school for you.) And I would think to myself, "I'm not two-faced...Am I?" What a horrible thing for a star sign to mean. I'd worry. Is that what it means? I guess it makes sense being the twins and all. Am I a sly Jekyll and Hyde-like character? I don't think so.

And I still don't think so.

Overall when I've looked up the traits for being a Gemini, in my mind, they were overwhelmingly positive. Playful, intellectually curious, creative, quick-witted social butterflies and fearless explorers. I'll take it! The twins are not the ill-conceived notion of being two-faced but represent being able to see life from different angles. And we're able to mirror the energy of others. As an avid traveler who constantly seeks out adventure and loves to meet new people, I felt pretty smug that this all seemed to fit in quite nicely with my self-perception and lifestyle.

That was until I met my partner, and one night we played around with the angle of "What is your horoscope like in Love?" and "Are you compatible?". It turns out, no, we're not. And why not?

Because Geminis are sluts. That's why.

Excuse me?! Did it really say that? Not in those exact words, but that was the theme over and over again. I devoured article upon article. Website upon website. And they all said a variation of the same thing. Gemini's are only good for a fun, adventurous fling but nothing more. Some went as far as to warn the other signs. One told sweet, sensitive Cancer (my partner's sign) that, sure, a Gemini can be fun for a while but don't enter a long-term relationship with them. They will only break your heart. Gemini's are fickle, flaky, flighty, and will likely get bored and move onto the next thing.

It seems that some of the very traits I admired and have served me so well traveling the world, being fun, charming, passionate, adaptable, flexible, and a free spirit. These are the same ones that make me a poor partner. That makes me untrustworthy, unpredictable, easily bored, a terrible flirt, and likely to take flight at a moment's notice. I'll never be satisfied by one person, apparently. Is that it, then? Am I doomed to a romantically nomadic life? Are Gemini's somehow undeserving of love? Will I be forever alone, searching for the next big thing? Am I just a slut?

No, I'm not. Not that there's anything wrong with sleeping around if that's what you want, we've all had our fun. But, I'm every bit deserving of love as anyone else. My partner laughed. "I can't believe your star sign is slut-shaming you!" I laughed too. It's a bit ridiculous.

For all those slut-shamed Gemini's out there, I wanted to offer an alternative love horoscope. One that uses our powers for good.

Gemini - 21st May - 20th June

Your love horoscope:

For single Geminis:

You will come into your element as we are able to socialise again. Shrug off that restlessness. Now is the time to dust off your one-liners and dazzle with your quick wit. You're not trying to impress anyone in particular but enjoying intelligent conversation.

As we come into Gemini season, you might just stumble upon someone when you're not looking. If you do, enjoy the moment and takes things nice and easy.

Mercury goes into retrograde late in the Month, and what would you know, Gemini is a sign ruled by Mercury?! So watch out for miscommunications and mishaps. Luckily as you are the King/Queen of communication, don't fret; keep your head on your shoulders to set it right.

For Geminis in a relationship:

As restrictions ease, your adventurous spirit will be reawakened. It's time to plan those little days out, spend time with friends and family and just relax and have fun!

As we come into Gemini season, you will become extra curious and interested in your partner. Use this as an opportunity to get to know each other better, go for a date with plenty of conversations and no distractions. Even contemplate playing a question and answer games like The Times 36 questions to fall in love.

Mercury goes into retrograde late in the Month. Watch out for that tricky planet! What can go wrong will go wrong. Don't let it affect you and your partner by talking it out and ultimately going back to your playful nature and laughing it off.
