All The Characters Who Have Used Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber

An Elegant Weapon

The Skywalker lightsaber has gone through many hands. This list includes characters in canon and Legends who have wielded the weapon in a meaningful way. Sure, it may have been temporarily stolen or perhaps borrowed (like when Han Solo used it to cut open a tauntaun), but let's stick to prominent characters who have used it in meaningful duels.

Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader

While we do see Padawan Anakin Skywalker wielding a blue-bladed lightsaber in Attack of the Clones, it gets broken in the Geonosis droid factory. He later borrows a couple lightsabers, but it is not until after this film that he builds the iconic Skywalker lightsaber, which we see him use in many battles throughout the Clone Wars in both canon and Legends. Unfortunately, in Revenge of the Sith, he uses it for dark deeds, including beheading a defenseless Count Dooku, slicing off Mace Windu's hand, and killing younglings. These deeds contribute to his transformation into Darth Vader. His last time using the lightsaber is in a duel against his former master and best friend Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar. Vader loses, and Kenobi takes the lightsaber away from him.

Luke Skywalker

Eventually, in A New Hope, Kenobi gives Anakin's son Luke Skywalker the lightsaber, saying that his father wanted him to have it. While Luke does not get to use it in a duel within this film, he uses it in adventures afterward in both canon and Legends. In The Empire Strikes Back, he gets to use it in a proper duel against Darth Vader. However, Vader cuts off his hand, causing Luke to lose the saber before finding out the truth about his father. So it seems that Anakin and Luke had the lightsaber for three years each. In the recent Star Wars comic series by Charles Soule, Luke later returns to Cloud City to search for his lightsaber, but he decides that there are more important things to take care of. He later picks up a yellow-bladed High Republic era lightsaber and eventually builds his own green-bladed lightsaber.

Luuke Skywalker

According to the Thrawn trilogy in Legends, a clone is made from Luke's hand. Named Luuke Skywalker, this clone wields the lightsaber as it fights Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade, who has operated as the Emperor's Hand. However, Mara Jade manages to kill him.

Mara Jade

Following the aforementioned fight, Luke hands the lightsaber over to Mara Jade, who is now on the path to becoming a Jedi. She later alternates between this blue-bladed lightsaber and her purple-bladed lightsaber. Over the years, Mara Jade marries Luke, and they have a son named Ben Skywalker. She uses the Skywalker lightsaber in her final moments dueling her nephew Jacen Solo, who has turned to the dark side. Following her death, Luke keeps the lightsaber at the Jedi Temple.

Finn

In canon, the lightsaber makes its way to Maz Kanata's castle sometime after the Cloud City duel. Three decades after that duel, it calls to Rey, but she refuses to use it. When the First Order attacks the castle, Finn wields the weapon, slaying stormtroopers and even fighting former comrade Nines. At Starkiller Base, he uses it against Kylo Ren, who defeats him, causing the lightsaber to fall from Finn's grasp.

Rey

However, Rey Force pulls the lightsaber to herself and wields it, fighting off Kylo Ren. In The Last Jedi, she uses it to fight Supreme Leader Snoke's Praetorian Guards at a time when she and Kylo Ren seem to have an alliance. Afterward, however, Kylo Ren still seems committed to the dark side. In a struggle where they both use Force pull, they break the saber in half. The lightsaber is repaired by Rey sometime after this film, and she later uses it against Kylo Ren in The Rise of Skywalker, stabbing him in the torso before Force healing him prior to his turn back to the light side. Disillusioned, Rey returns to Ahch-To and tries burning the lightsaber, but the Jedi spirit of Luke Skywalker prevents her from doing so and presents her with Leia's blue-bladed lightsaber.

Ben Solo

Later, on the Sith world Exegol, Rey transfers the lightsaber over to Ben Solo. As Rey wields Leia's lightsaber, the two of them go up against the reborn Emperor Palpatine. Ben is sent falling, but Rey ends up dual wielding and defeating Palpatine, with Ben sacrificing his own life to revive her when she is dead. After this, both the Skywalker lightsaber and Leia's lightsaber are buried by the Lars moisture farm on Tatooine.
