All Confirmed Upcoming 'Star Wars' TV Projects

A Refresher

With The Bad Batch season 1 now behind us, it will probably be a long wait before we get to see season 2. By that same token, it's been quite a wait for The Mandalorian season 3, which is expected to come out next year. But even with these series being active, many people are surely eager to see the next new TV project coming from Star Wars. There are many of them to keep track of. It seems likely that the previously announced Rangers of the New Republic is no longer in active development, so there may be confusion regarding what is still going on. With that in mind, here is a refresher on the Disney+ TV projects that we for sure know are coming from Star Wars.

Visions

This is the project that is coming out the soonest. Dropping all at once on September 22, Star Wars: Visions is a series of nine shorts from various anime studios. They are not strictly adhering to the confines of the canonical Star Wars timeline, as the goal to to encourage more creativity from the animators. The trailer, which can be heard in English and Japanese, looks pretty wild, and there are even a couple of stories set after The Rise of Skywalker.

LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales

Another project outside of the main canon is LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales. The Lego specials and series have been pretty fun, even poking fun at the franchise a bit. This upcoming Halloween episode actually features characters from LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, which itself features a guest appearance from a character introduced in LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles. So I guess you could say these Lego projects have a continuity of sorts. This Halloween special drops on October 1.

The Book of Boba Fett

Since the very end of The Mandalorian season 2 finale, we have known that The Book of Boba Fett comes out this December. We witnessed his return, and now we will see what he does in the underworld now that he has taken control of what used to be Jabba's Palace. And of course, he has Fennec Shand by his side, so we will see more of her. Robert Rodriguez, who directed The Mandalorian episode featuring Boba's triumphant return, is overseeing this show along with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Andor

Due sometime next year, Star Wars: Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna reprises his role in this series, which begins five years before the aforementioned film. Alan Tudyk has said that K-2SO is not in the first season, and that the plan is to bring him in later on. This makes it sound like we will have a better idea of who Cassian is before the more comical partner is brought into his life. We will also see Genevieve O'Reilly reprise her role as Mon Mothma in this show that will surely give us more stories of the Rebel Alliance's development.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and due sometime next year, Obi-Wan Kenobi sees the return of Ewan McGregor in the titular role during his time in exile. Not only that, but we will see Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse return as Darth Vader, Owen Lars, and Beru Lars, respectively. Other actors have been announced, but their roles are unknown. There is speculation that Obi-Wan might need to leave Tatooine for a bit during this show, and there have been rumors of a young Leia being involved somehow. But of course, these particular possibilities are not certain until officially announced or revealed on the show itself.

The Acolyte

From here on out, the estimated release times for the TV shows get a bit murky. But we know that Leslye Headland is currently working with a team of various writers on the show, including one who had never really seen Star Wars before. The show is set at the end of the High Republic era, approximately fifty years before The Phantom Menace. Headland has expressed curiosity over how the galaxy got to the state it's in during that film. The series is described as a thriller, so it could potentially feel more new than these other shows in terms of creativity. Late 2022 might be pushing it, but 2023 seems like a safe bet.

Ahsoka

Obviously, Ahsoka Tano's live-action debut in The Mandalorian where she's played by Rosario Dawson was a backdoor pilot for an Ahsoka series. Based on the fact that she is searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn, and by extension probably Ezra Bridger as well, it seems possible that this show could be the Rebels sequel that fans of that animated show have been waiting for. Rosario Dawson seems to have confirmed that Lars Mikkelsen is reprising the role of Thrawn, while Ezra Bridger would be played by Aladdin actor Mena Massoud. At the moment, we do not have confirmation about anyone playing Sabine Wren, though people have been wanting Tiya Sircar to reprise the role, and she has been thankful for the love from the fans. Again, 2023 would probably be a safe bet, and would make sense to release after The Mandalorian season 3 comes out next year, progressing the story of this era in the galaxy.

Lando

Lando is another one of the many series announced last December. Oddly, it has not been confirmed when this show will take place or whether either Donald Glover or Billy Dee Williams will reprise their roles. I would bet on the former being most likely, though I would not mind Billy Dee Williams narrating the adventures of the younger version of the character. Some fans even want the Jannah thread from The Rise of Skywalker to be continued on this show somehow. But again, we know very little. Perhaps there's a chance this could come out in 2023 if we hear more about its development sometime in the near future, but I would bet that 2024 is more likely. But perhaps I should be careful gambling when it comes to Lando.

A Droid Story

A Droid Story is an animated TV movie that will feature C-3PO, R2-D2, and a new droid hero. The release time for this is anyone's guess. Since it is an animated feature film, it could be released between seasons of any of these different shows. This might be the TV project that fans are least looking forward to, but I myself am excited. Some of the more droid-centric episodes in The Clone Wars and Rebels have had really good humor, so I'm simply expecting a fun story, nothing too fancy.
