For the first time in a long time the world seemed foreign to Ella. The smell of the air and the sounds of the industrialized city fascinated her in ways she could never imagine and while these new found wonders amazed and dazzled her senses she couldn’t help but look into the next room.

Lying there was him. Why would someone risk his life for her. Why would a pureblood put it all on the line for a Synth?

The floor was cold. She had felt this before but cared little about it until now. For so long she was used to the cold harshness and bitter reality of a life of work and bondage but yet, now that she was free all that Ella cared about was him. She knew that he had chosen her and that for some reason she had to be with him now.

With each step she made towards his room she could hear each breath he took. Ella made sure that each step was soft and subtle so that she would not awaken him and while she was taking pleasure looking upon this man who saved her she longed to lie beside him and feel the warmth she felt when they first embraced.

Upon reaching his bed she slowly placed her head next to his and for the first time felt comfort. His body was warm. A warmth she was not accustomed to but a feeling she could get used to. With each breath he took she could hear the slow shallow beat of his heart. She had one of her own however the Order has taught her kind that the blood coursing through her veins wasn’t pure. It was genetically created.

Ella laid there and silently stared at the man that had saved her. As she was finally getting comfortable he awoke.

"What’s wrong? Why are you shivering?"

The man looked upon Ella with patient yet concerning eyes.

"I don’t know Noah. You have shown me so much but yet I still wonder why you saved me. You are a pure.."

Noah placed his fingers gently upon Ella's lips softly pausing her mid sentence.

"Ella you represent so much. When I found you and when I first saw you I knew"

Ella grabbed Noah's hand and responded looking unsure of herself.

"Noah I’m a Synth and you’re a pureblood. I don’t even know who you really are. I was a year from becoming free and yet you saved me. I don’t know why"

Ella shrugged and slumped uncertain of herself. She was unaware that fate had played a role in her being set free. Noah gazed into her eyes and slowly caressed her cheek.

"Ella it was your eyes."

"What about my eyes"

Ella looked upon Noah now with a slow trickle of tears streaming down. She being synthetic and brain washed did not know what feelings were or how to act. All she knew was that this sudden euphoria of emotion was foreign to her and her only reaction was to cry. It was all she knew how to do.

Noah grabbed both of Ella's hands and held her close to him.

"Your eyes are so beautiful. They were unlike any other Synth's eyes I have ever seen. You became aware and you have shown me that Synth or not your kind deserve to live a life as a free person just as us not confound to what our Religion or Order dictates you were made for."

Ella looked at Noah with a concerned yet gentle look as a single synthetic tear slowly began to trickle down her cheek.

"But, why me?"

Staring into Ella's beautiful hazel green eyes Noah replied.

“Why you?”

“Because you believe that you aren’t just a Synthetic Ella.”

“I can see that you believe that you have a soul and that you are human and it’s for that reason alone I fight for you!”
