"They call themselves the Bad Batch."

- Commander Cody

Star Wars Day is going to be more exciting this year. Star Wars: The Bad Batch will debut on Disney+ on May 4, 2021, with subsequent episodes coming out every Friday starting on May 7, 2021.

The Bad Batch, or Clone Force 99, are an elite clone commando squad with specific “desirable” genetic mutations that enhanced their abilities. We have “Wrecker,” who has super strength, “Crosshair,” a sniper with enhanced vision, “Tech,” who specializes in technological operations, and “Hunter,” the squad leader who can “feel” electromagnetic signals. A clone trooper known as “Echo,” who later joins the squad, was outfitted with cybernetics, and does not have any genetic mutation like the others in the group.

We last saw them in season 7 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, fighting in the Battle of Anaxes, which results in Republic victory. In the new upcoming series, we will see how they fare during the early days of the Galactic Empire. According to Lucasfilm, they are to “take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find a new purpose.” How far will they stray from being mercenaries as the series progresses?

From the trailer, we already know that Fennec Shand and Wilhuff Tarkin will appear in the show. With all the cameos and Easter eggs appearing in The Mandalorian, we can expect the same with this upcoming series. Here are characters we hope to see in the upcoming Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Boba Fett

Boba Fett is the unaltered clone of Jango Fett, as close to the original as you can get. We would want to see how the genetically enhanced Bad Batch hold up against the original. However, Boba Fett would be about thirteen at the start of the Galactic Empire, a little inexperienced, and not yet at his full potential. I doubt we will be seeing him fight against the Bad Batch at this time, as they would easily overpower the youth. Perhaps the Bad Batch would act as older brothers mentoring him in some way.

Cad Bane

Cad Bane was a contemporary of Jango Fett whose bounty hunter career skyrocketed after Fett's death. We could see him wanting to test his wits and skills against the enhanced versions of Jango Fett. The probability of this engagement would increase if Cad Bane ended up taking Boba Fett under his wing. He would not resist the chance to compare the unaltered clone against the genetically altered clones.

Rex

Rex works with the Bad Batch extensively during the Battle of Anaxes. He is a close friend of Echo, who later joins the Bad Batch. It is almost a given that Rex will appear in the new series. While we do not know for sure how the Bad Batch (including Echo) react to Order 66, we know that Rex is able to resist Order 66 after Ahsoka removes his inhibitor chip. Therefore, we may see the Bad Batch interact with him in some capacity as they deal with the aftermath of Order 66. Like them, he is also not part of the new Imperial army. They may encounter each other as they try to avoid detection by the Empire.

Ahsoka Tano

We did not see her interact with the Bad Batch during the Clone Wars, as she had left the Jedi Order by the time of Battle of Anaxes. However, she is very close to Rex. As a friend of a friend, the Bad Batch would encounter her sooner or later. In her position as Fulcrum, and leader of the Rebel intelligence network, Ahsoka would not miss the opportunity to recruit them to help the Rebellion’s weak military.

Saw Gerrera

Saw Gerrera is part of the Onderon rebels who fights against the Separatists during the Clone Wars. His militia form the fledgling military branch of the Rebel Alliance. Gerrera is an exceptional commander, although his unconventional methods alienate him from the rest of the Rebel Alliance. The Bad Batch could relate to him as they are both skilled fighters who are viewed differently by their peers. They could come across each other if the Bad Batch end up working with the Rebellion’s military.

There are currently many unknowns surrounding Star Wars: The Bad Batch. What is the plot? Who else is going to be in it? What we know for sure is that we are excited for its release and cannot wait to see it on Star Wars Day.
