If you're an avid Star Wars fan, then you were probably boiling over with anticipation last year when The Mandalorian hit Disney Plus... I know I was! What we didn't expect was baby Yoda to take over! Here are some of my personal favorite Grogu facts from The Mandalorian!

SPOILER ALERTS AHEAD!

If you have not watched The Mandalorian, proceed at your own risk!

Grogu, commonly called "Baby Yoda" by fans is a character from the Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian. At a measly 50 years old, the Child immediately captivated the hearts of all. Ok, so we all know Baby Yoda is a cutie, but there are a few facts that aren't as well known.

1. Behind the Baby

Jon Favreau, known for his character presence, direction and production in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other fantastic films and series, initially created Grogu to explore and develop Yoda's mysterious species. Grogu's character was developed early during creation with the help of Dave Filoni.

When you think of Yoda, you may remember the wise, little green creature that ended his journey in the Return of the Jedi. While Yoda is a staple character, his species is left mysterious. In contrast to Yoda's journey ending, the Mandalorian embarks on the beginning of Grogu's.

Fans hold a high standard for Yoda's species as aside from the lesser known Yaddle's appearance in the prequels on the Jedi Council, Yoda's species has remained sacred yet underdeveloped. To create such a star role with the mysterious creature is no small feat that has left a lot of fans on the edge of their seat, expecting the same calculated development that is well known of George Lucas.

2. Baby ET?

A blind eye may see that Grogu looks very similar to his predecessor, Yoda (and Yaddle who appears as a mid-aged Yoda with a full head of lusciously flowing brunet locks). It's easy to compare the little wide eyed, long and pointy eared, wrinkly, chibi headed creatures. There are many physical similarities that were kept between the species but the big eyed child may look like another creature from another universe that you recognize.

Jon Favreau admits that during the initial sketching and character development, Dave Filoni created a sketch of Baby Yoda that strongly resembled ET. Some of this concept was kept while physical development was underway. Aside from the half face of eyes, Grogu's nose and mouth also assimilate ET's facial construct.

3. What's in a name?

While an important character of the series, Grogu was not initially anticipated to be quite so received by fans. Fans immediately created the nickname "Baby Yoda" for Grogu and while the nickname is never used on the series, it is the most commonly known name for the character.

Baby Yoda has become a bit of a phenomenon, eclipsing many characters that were expected to be more prominent. The hype does not spread to all Star Wars fans. While Baby Yoda's social media following suggests a severe adoration for the innocent child, there are many fans that have spoken their discontent for the over use of the popular character.

While Baby Yoda has taken over social media... and every shelf in America... there is no doubt that The Mandalorian is a beautiful continuation following the Return of the Jedi. Allowing us to explore species that has left us impatiently waiting to delve into as well as a few new characters!
