You are here and it is here
What do you do when you are cornered?
You knew better. You had a feeling that you should stay out of Aunt Dora's attic. So many times you stood at the door and something made you turn around.
Your cousins joked that there was a demon in the attic that shut the door, blinked the lights and made things move. They would run up and say something sarcastic then run back down.
Aunt Dora said the kids had overactive imaginations. You never went with them but always waited at the door at the bottom of the steps. You did not desire to run into whatever was up there On this day you are older and believe you are wiser.
Several times you cracked open the door and gazed into the blackness that felt full of evil. All you had to do was hit the switch and turn on the light but the darkness seemed fascinating. You have been warned to stay away from the attic by your cousins but today you feel you are on a mission.
Jesus is the light, light of the world plays in your head but you decide it's time to brave the darkness. You slowly open the door and take your first step. The air coming from the attic is , thick and warm, yet damp and musty.
You take a few more steps counting along the way. As you step higher into the attic you begin to feel "it". The emotion that lets you know you are not alone and someone is watching.
You bravely keep going until you reach the top. You touch the wall until you find the light switch. The bulb is dim giving off an eerie glow. After all these years you made it up in the dark.
Looking around you see old furniture and toys. Everything is musty and dusty. You walk around slowly ignoring the growing apprehension and alarm bells going off.
A ball rolls in front of your feet. You respond by saying you must have kicked it earlier. When the light flickers you note that the bulb is long overdue for a change. The air grow cooler and you say the uninsulated attic is drafty.
You will not give "it" the satisfaction of giving in to the acknowledgment the presence is seeking . On the inside you want to scream but you will not express outward fear.
You hear the breathing behind you and pretend you don't notice. Instead you comment on the clutter and disarray. A rafter makes a sound as though it is bending and the window curtain moves without wind.
It it screaming "Acknowledge me!" but you refuse. If you admit that it is there t cold manifest in front of you and it's power feed off of your fear. No one had been in the attic in years and the door remained locked until today. As soon as you think about it you hear the door slam shut.
No one knows where you are and you know you should not be there. Footsteps are moving your way yet you see nothing. The light goes out and you are in the dark except for the sunshine coming through the window. It is demanding acknowledgement and you are fighting the urge to give in.
You are sweating and hyperventilating and realize you have no choice now but to acknowledge the malevolent presence. It's real and you left your phone downstairs so you can't call for help.
You feel as though you are being enveloped in the darkness. You can run down the steps and push the door open then lock it but that won't solve the issue. You realize it's power is in darkness and you begin singing Jesus is the light, the light of the world.
It feels as if the entire house is shaking but you can't stop now. You keep singing for a few more minutes then you recall what your grandma once told you and shout "What in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ do you want here?
You realize your grandma was right upon that question all the noise stopped and the atmosphere once again was an old dusty attic. The Spirit had not been one from he Lord and had no business there, You walk around a few times and ponder that you never should have come here but you are so glad you did.
