Wrong Place, Wrong Time
Some doors should never be opened...
Jack Turner had always been a curious man. A travel photographer by profession, he had explored abandoned buildings, eerie forests, and forgotten towns. But nothing had ever sent chills down his spine like the small gas station he found on a deserted highway in Arizona.
It was past midnight when Jack’s car sputtered and died in the middle of nowhere. His phone had no signal, and the only sign of civilization was a dimly lit gas station a few hundred yards away. With no other option, he grabbed his camera and walked toward it.
The place looked old, as if it hadn’t seen a customer in years. The neon sign flickered weakly—“OPEN”—but something about it felt wrong. Pushing the door open, Jack stepped inside.
A bell chimed overhead. The store was empty. No cashier, no customers—just rows of dusty shelves and a faint humming sound coming from the back. Jack hesitated, then called out, “Hello? Anyone here?”
Silence.
Then, suddenly, a whisper. “You shouldn’t be here.”
Jack spun around, his heart pounding. The voice had come from nowhere. His eyes darted around the dimly lit store, but he saw no one. Then, the lights flickered, and for a brief moment, in the reflection of the refrigerator glass, he saw a shadow—a tall figure standing behind him.
When he turned, there was nothing.
The exit door slammed shut on its own.
Jack’s breath quickened. He reached for his phone, but it was dead. Then, the whisper came again, closer this time. “You came at the wrong place… the wrong time.”
The lights went out.
And Jack knew—he was not alone.
