INT. KINCAID'S CAR - NIGHT

Kincaid and James ride silently, as they drive past a squadron of police cars — sirens blaring, headed toward the hospital.

INT. KINCAID'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Kincaid's loft-style apartment in downtown Los Angeles is a sweet pad, filled with Art Deco pieces and lots of rare artifacts on display. Many of these are magical items, filled with power. Swords, crosses, pieces of armor.

Kincaid and James enter through a freight elevator. James takes a look around.

"Where are we?" James asks.

"My place," replies Kincaid, "We'll be safe here."

James picks up a scepter. It starts to glow. Kincaid quickly grabs it from James' hands and returns it to its holder.

"So James, tell me: how long have you been blind?" Kincaid inquires.

"Eight years," replies James, "Ever since the accident."

Kincaid nods, "Until tonight. You saw that security guard for what he really was."

James stares blankly out a window, "What the hell is happening to me?"

"Your brother Adam: you two were always connected,” Kincaid begins. “And you already know what I'm going to tell you.”

"He's dead," says James solemnly.

Kincaid nods, "His mortal body may be gone, but his immortal soul lives on. He's an angel, James. But, there are no angels on Earth anymore. They've been locked out. The gateway between heaven and our world is closed."

Kincaid sits down, and continues to deliver his speech, "The demons from hell are getting stronger. I fight as many of them as I can, but I can't see them like you do. Somehow you got your brother's power. The best weapon angels had against demons: Divine Sight."

"So, I can see again because my brother is dead, and I've been chosen as some kind of soldier in a supernatural war?” voices James.

Kincaid responds, "A war that we're losing. Until now."

"What happens if I say I don't believe in any of this?" James asks.

Kincaid gestures toward the door, "Come on. I'll show you how much the world has changed in eight years."

INT. KINCAID'S CAR - NIGHT

Kincaid and James ride through the streets of L.A. The city has become decrepit — fires, homeless, abandoned cars.

Kincaid drives and speaks, "Not quite what you remember? Demons are taking over the city, slowly turning it into a wasteland. Only when they are bloodthirsty or injured do they show their true form."

James looks out of his window, listening.

Kincaid continues, "I know they have a stronghold nearby. And you're going to help me find it."

James spots a pretty girl walking alone down the sidewalk. A group of three young men follow about ten paces back. James sees their faces: demons.

"There! Them on the right!" James shouts.

"Good job, kid," Kincaid praises, "But I'm not interested in three low-ranking street walkers. I want the big fish."

"We have to do something. They're going to kill her!" James pleads.

Kincaid slams on the brakes.

EXT. ALLEY - CONTINUOUS

GIRL speeds up her step once she realizes she's being followed. DEMON 1 chases her and grabs her around the waist. His face turns to its true form.

"Look at what I caught!" laughs DEMON 1.

The other two laugh with him. GIRL screams.

Kincaid steps into the alley.

"Let her go!" he commands.

DEMON 2 grabs Kincaid by the lapels of his jacket. "Buzz off, freak! Or you're next," DEMON 2 threatens.

Kincaid draws his sword from the sheath on his back, hidden by his trench coat. In one swing, he takes off the head of DEMON 2. "You've been warned," he states.

DEMON 1 growls, drops the girl, and comes running at Kincaid. Kincaid pulls a small glass vial from his jacket and throws it at DEMON 1. The vial bursts, covering DEMON 1 in lighter fluid. He stops momentarily and wipes his face.

"What’s this? Holy water?" DEMON 1 questions.

"Butane, asshole!" Kincaid replies.

Kincaid pulls his Zippo lighter from his pants pocket. He smiles as he flicks it.

Nothing. He tries again, but the wick doesn't light.

“Shit!" he curses.

DEMON 1 charges. Kincaid grabs his sword by the handle with both hands, and runs toward DEMON 1. He scrapes the blade against the pavement, and gets a spark. Kincaid thrusts his hands outward to cast magic.

Kincaid yells, "Ignis Scintilla!"

An ancient spell for arcane fire — Latin words meaning fire spark. The sparks fly through the air, directly hitting DEMON 1. He catches fire. DEMON 1 screams, as he burns to dust.

Kincaid turns his sword on the third assailant.

"No, stop! Not that one. He's human," James advises.

Kincaid looks back to the entrance of the alley. James watched the entire fight unfold. Kincaid turns his attention back to the THIRD MAN, and speaks to him, "You're hanging with the wrong crowd. Get lost, before I lose my cool. Got it?"

THIRD MAN nods and runs toward the entrance of the alley.

Kincaid helps the GIRL up, and asks, "You okay?"

She nods.

James shouts, "Kincaid behind you!"

THIRD MAN pulls out a concealed revolver, and aims it at Kincaid. He fires. The bullet rips through Kincaid's chest. Two more shots. Bang, bang! Blood splatters on GIRL's face.

Kincaid turns around, and walks up to THIRD MAN. He grabs the barrel of the revolver. Heat burns his hand, as flesh sizzles. Kincaid rips the gun from THIRD MAN's hand, and pistol whips him across the face. THIRD MAN drops to the ground, out cold.

Kincaid walks back toward GIRL, but she blows by him. She pushes past James and runs away.

Kincaid idles up to James, who is bewildered.

"You just took three bullets to the chest. You should be dead!" James says, astonished.

Kincaid pulls out a cigarette and puts it in his mouth, "Yeah well, I'm not," he states.

Kincaid tries his lighter again. Still no luck. He throws it down the alley, and looks at James, "Hey, you got a light?"

James shakes his head.

Kincaid tosses the cigarette, "Bad habit anyway."

James is confused, "Who are you?"

Kincaid motions toward his vehicle, "Get in the car. It's a long story."
