Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner
Jabez twisted quote unofficial challenge
Everyone knows who rules this roost, it’s Foghorn Leghorn of course. He’s up before the sun every morning, flies to the chicken coop roof, and announces the beginning of every new day. His voice was so strong it resonated throughout the dell. Most of the residents relied on Foghorn’s powerful crowing to roust them out of bed. Sure, there were other roosters in the dell but none with the crowing power of Foghorn. He truly did rule the roost.
Barnyard Dog was not a fan of Foghorn and his crowing. Actually, he hated him. Barnyard enjoyed sleeping late in the morning and hanging out with the sheep during lazy afternoon strolls through the pasture. Foghorn continually disrupted his routine. Barnyard needed to find a way to shut this bird up for good. There had to be a way. After all, no one ever called him a dumb dog. Lazy, sure, but not dumb.
Every fall the local residence displayed the best of their livestock at the county fair. They enjoyed getting together with the other farmers from around the dell to describe new planting techniques and mostly tell tall tales about their trips to the big city. While the men were showing off their animals the women competed in bake offs and knitting contests. Everyone fawned over Foghorn and what a great service he provided to the community.
Everyone’s favorite competition at the fair was sheepherding. Each farmer entered his best dog and a small herd of sheep for the competition. Barnyard didn’t enjoy competing, but this year was different. He had made a pack with the sheep. If they followed his commands, he would protect them from wolves and coyotes. They agreed.
The competition was fast and furious. In the end, Barnyard won the prize. The announcer called out, “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!”
Barnyard stared at Foghorn Leghorn and licked his lips.
