Arrival

Kevin, Rose, Kelsey, Finn, and Flora were in the basement of the newly remodeled house that Kevin's brother, Richard, recently purchased to flip but, for some reason, decided he may live there instead. Worried about his brother, he allows Kevin to stay at the house to escape the city and relax due to the recent loss of his daughter. The five of them are in the basement, where their adventure begins!

After hearing a strange sound and feeling the floor tremble, Kevin, Rose, and Kelsy held onto a long metal bar running along the wall close to the stairs as they had just entered the basement; then Davenports ran over and started holding onto the bar, too!

The house started to moan as if it were going to implode. Then Kelsy yelled, "Don't worry about the house! It will be fine!"

"How do you know?" said Rose.

"I have done this before!"

The rumbling slowed down, and the screams got louder and louder!

"Everyone, cover your ears for this one!" yelled Kelsy.

At first, when they placed their hands over their ears, they could not hear the scream anymore, but after a few more minutes, they started to hear the sound getting louder.

What seemed an eternity, everything stopped all at once!

"What happens now? A hole under the house opens, and we will free-fall through?" said Rose condescendingly.

"How did you know, Mom? Kelsey said in a returning condescending voice.

Kelsy grabbed a flashlight and walked over to the wall on the other side of the basement. The light flashed on the wall, and the wall seemed to disappear from view.

"Now the floor will disappear, and we will feel as if we are free falling. We won't be falling, but we will be transported to another dimension," Kelsey said.

"What are you talking about?" Rose said worriedly. She barely got her sentence out when the floor disappeared from view, and everyone felt like they were falling. Everyone's hair stood on its end as if genuinely falling towards the ground. Everyone simultaneously screamed as if their very lives were on the line! Suddenly, they ended abruptly! It felt like they fell onto the floor, and everyone fell to the ground. It is as if they were in a dark room. Kelsy's flashlight lit the room, and it would have been entirely opaque if she had not had it with her.

"What happens next, Kelsy?" said Kevin.

"Now we wait for an opening."

"What type of opening?" said Finn.

"Just start looking around for an opening of some type!" said Kelsy.

"How many times have you done this, Kelsy?" said Rose with a worried look.

"Rob and I have jumped over one hundred times to make it back home. We nearly gave up."

"There does not seem to be any way out," said Flora.

"Keep looking; there has to be a way out," Kelsy said with a desperate voice. At that moment, they heard a sound like a cumbersome door was opening. Everyone walked to the door to see what was on the other side. They held their breath as they looked through the opening and saw a flying car heading straight toward them.

"Jump out of the way!" yelled Kelsy. The five jumped through the doorway and landed in a marshy meadow. The flying car swerved and turned around. When the driver saw everyone was okay, they drove off.

"We are in the future, where I was in the era with Rob. We are to meet up with Rob south of this meadow."

"How did you know we would land here?" asked Kevin.

"It would take too long to explain, and Rob is waiting for us; I have no idea how long he has been waiting."

"Probably a decade!" Rose muttered under her breath.

"What did you say, mother?"

"Oh, nothing, Kelsy, just complaining."

"Don't worry, Mom. I will have you in a place where you can clean up and rest soon," Kelsy said.

"Thank you!"

The group walked in the marshy meadow until they could no longer walk. When Rose saw a row of tree stubs, she decided to sit down.

"Come on, Mom, it's not much further!" Said Kelsey with a hurried voice.

"You have been saying that for miles, and I am worn out!"

"We are all worn out, Kelsy!" Said Kevin.

"Wait here and let me get something to ride in or on."

"What did she mean by that?" Said Finn.

"I don't know, but it has to be better than walking!" Said Flora in an exhausted voice. Kelsy disappeared in the distance and was gone for over an hour.

"I hope Kelsy is okay?" Said Kevin in a worried voice.

"I just got her back and don't want to lose her again!" Just at that moment, a large object appeared in the sky. Initially, it did not look special, but the closer it got, the more worried they became until it was hovering over them, looking like a small city. It blotted out the sun around their area of the field, which gave them shade. Suddenly, a beam of light came down from the bottom but around the outer edge of the ship, surrounding them.

"Kevin! What is that?" Rose said in a hysterical voice.

"I don't know, but it looks solid!"

"Wait! I read about this type of technology. It is years from becoming a reality, though; even decades since scientists were going to be able to use this technology! It was just someone's idea!" Finn said with great curiosity. Then, without warning, Finn walked over to the light and started to touch it; at that moment, he heard a voice yelling at him not to touch the light beam.

"Wait!" Rose said with a curious but frantic voice.

"I know that voice! Kelsy? A round platform started descending from the bottom of the ship. It had a human-shaped figure on it. As the figure got larger and larger and closer to them, everyone noticed who it was.

"Please don't touch that; it is unstable and might burn you. It will be dark soon; going on foot after dark is unsafe. Kevin walked up to Kelsy and hugged her.

"I am glad you are okay; I was beginning to worry I would not see you again!"

"Everything is okay, Dad. I needed to find us something to ride in," said Kelsy in a concerned tone.

"You expect me to get into that thing?"

"It is safer than walking since the dark of night is almost here. You don't want to be out here when it gets dark!"

"Why not?" asked Rose.

"I did not want to scare you! At night, mutants come out to prey on the weak and elderly. I do not know how they can find their targets; it's as if they can smell them." With that being the last conversation, without hesitation, each slowly walks up to the beam of light at the saucer-shaped vehicle and is gradually pulled up by the light.

"So, if you touch the light, it will burn you? Right? Said Finn.

"Finn! Stop!" Flora demanded in a demanding voice. "Well, isn't anyone else curious?" Finn said.
