In the United States, this would mean the immediate end of all political careers, at all levels, whether you are Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative.

But in Belgium , since the Spanish authorities did not bring any charges for indecent behavior in public, this act was considered to have been committed in private. And since the private sex life of any Belgian politician - with the exception of rape or child abuse - is strictly private (as in most other Western European countries), there was no significant impact on his political career. In fact, this incident was never even mentioned by his political opponents.

As voters continued to appreciate her political effectiveness, she was re-elected the following year. And at her town's annual carnival festivities, she appeared in a medieval princess costume, much to the delight of voters in her constituency.

By the way, this constituency was the local branch of the center-right Flemish Christian Democratic Party. Yes, you read that right, a Christian party.

True liberalism judges politicians by the notable and lasting improvements they make in everyday life, not by the potentially hypocritical statements they may make about morals or ideology.
