When Everything Beeps

When he walked through the door, there was a beep. It didn't bother him; maybe it was a security thing.

He came in and put the television on, but before it came on, it beeped. Each time he changed a channel, it beeped. This was beginning to grate a little.

Each door he walked through, to the bedroom and bathroom, when he opened them, they beeped. Maybe he should just leave all the flat doors open. He was alone here, so if he was showering or on the toilet, he didn't need any privacy.

When he turned on the shower, it fucking beeped.

When he turned on the taps while washing and cleaning his teeth, they beeped as well.

He turned on the kettle it beeped.

These noises were drilling into his head.

He placed a pan on the hob.

It fucking beeped.

This was a rental, but there was no way to contact the owner to switch off the beeps.

Everything beeped.

The fridge beeped when he opened it, and when he left it open.

When he got into bed, the bed beeped.

How could he sleep?

His dreams were a place of continual beeps, a nightmare world where silence was unknown.

The following day THEY came in and found his body in the bed, his mind fried.

The cadaver was dispatched to the market for dismemberment and sale of parts to the highest bidder.
