JUPITER PLANET

WHAT IF JUPITER WAS A ROCKY PLANET?

Jupiter, a majestic sphere of swirling clouds, is an astounding eleven times wider than Earth, over 300 times more massive, and a million times more fearsome. However, let us contemplate an alternative scenario: what if Jupiter, the monarch of the solar system, deviated from its gas giant nature? What if, instead, it transformed into a colossal rock giant? In this hypothetical scenario, what would the surface of this celestial body resemble? Could it possibly sustain life? Moreover, what perils might one encounter if they attempted to traverse its terrain? Join us as we delve into the realm of possibilities and explore the potential outcomes if Jupiter were a rocky planet.

GAS GIANT JUPITER

Jupiter, the gas giant, is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Initially, it formed from a swirling disc of gas and dust, gradually developing into a sizeable planetary core. Over time, Jupiter's core expanded, attracting an increasing amount of rock, ice, and metal. However, Jupiter's destiny was not to become a rocky planet. Its immense gravitational force attracted vast quantities of hydrogen and helium, resulting in its transformation into the magnificent gas giant we observe today. Considering an alternative scenario, what if Jupiter continued to draw in more rocky materials instead of gas? Could it have become the largest terrestrial world in our solar system, potentially having significant implications for our planetary neighbourhood?

JUPITEROCALYPSE

For this hypothetical event known as the Jupiter Apocalypse, let's imagine a scenario where Jupiter's composition consists entirely of rock, with no gas present. In this altered state, Jupiter would become unimaginably massive, weighing four times more than its current gas giant form. It's important to note that the gas giant Jupiter is already approximately twice as heavy as all the other planets in our solar system combined. With this significant increase in mass, Jupiter's gravity would become incredibly strong. The gravitational pull of a rocky Jupiter would now be four times more powerful than before, which is roughly ten times stronger than the gravity experienced here on Earth. Consequently, walking on this rocky Jupiter would be impossible. The extreme gravitational force would exert immense pressure on your body, causing your bones to break. Your heart would struggle to cope with the intense workload of pumping blood, potentially leading to it beating out of your chest. Additionally, blood would accumulate in your lower body, resulting in feelings of dizziness and lightheartedness. Moreover, the rocky Jupiter, now reigning as the dominant entity in the solar system, would attract even more moons and asteroids. Unfortunately, some of these celestial bodies would be on a collision course with the colossal rocky giant.

JUPITER`S SURFACE

Jupiter's Surface: Despite constant asteroid collisions, Jupiter's surface could be a potential destination. Although it lies outside the Solar System's habitable zone, Rocky Jupiter, being massive, could retain internal heat from its formation. Hence, even though it is far from the Sun, surface temperatures similar to Earth's are possible. It might even have hot oceans. Terrestrial Jupiter's strong gravity would create a thick atmosphere, resulting in high atmospheric pressure. Consequently, the boiling point of water on this rocky giant would be higher than on Earth, allowing oceans to remain liquid even at temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius. However, swimming there would be out of the question. The atmosphere of gas giant Jupiter is predominantly hydrogen and helium. If Rocky Jupiter's atmosphere consisted of these gases as well, it would not be breathable.

MASSIVE STORM

Jupiter already possesses colossal storms within its clouds, and if Rocky Jupiter also had active volcanoes ejecting ash and lava, the lightning storms would become even more intense. Although the gases released from these volcanoes could potentially alter the atmosphere of Rocky Jupiter and render it habitable for other life forms, it may not be suitable for humans. These life forms could range from terrifying creatures larger and stronger than dinosaurs, capable of withstanding Jupiter's immense gravity, to microscopic organisms residing beneath Rocky Jupiter's surface. However, this scenario is considerably less thrilling. Nevertheless, the increased gravity of Jupiter would disrupt Earth's stable orbit, leading to significant climate changes. Earth could be forced closer to the Sun, transforming it into a scorching, inhospitable world. Alternatively, it could be propelled farther away, resulting in freezing temperatures. Either way, this bodes poorly for humans. Furthermore, Earth would not be the sole planet affected by this gravitational shift; the entire solar system would plunge into chaos. Planets and moons would deviate from their intended paths, potentially colliding with one another and causing widespread destruction. Although it is hopeful that Earth would avoid any collisions, the situation could worsen if Jupiter were on a collision course with our planet. One can only imagine the catastrophic consequences such an event would bring.
