Week 1: Bad

By Samraat GhanghasPublished 2 years ago 7 min read

Hi I’m Jason, and right now I’m on my way to school which is very far away. I walk through the park, sit down on the bench, duck under some trees, walk 4 kilometers more, reach school, go to my classroom on the other side of the entrance!

I sit down at my desk and my teacher Mr. Grumble calls Landy’s name out. “ Landy, I just found out that at breaktime yesterday you were flying a drone inside the classroom! This is unexpectable behavior Landy!” shouts Mr. Grumble. I’m very ashamed of myself.” says Landy, pretending to be upset. “ You should be. Now go back to your seat,” bellowed Mr. Grumble. Landy went back to his seat slouching, but I could tell he was smiling. Now you just heard how angry Mr. Grumble was when he found out that Landy drove the drone inside, so we also call him ‘Mr. No Fun’, therefore I’ll start calling him Mr. No Fun too.

At breaktime I walk around in circles trying to think of what to do. Usually I play with my best friend Max but he is absent today. “What do I usually do without Max?” I thought, and spent 30 minutes trying to think of what to do and the bell rang. I went to my classroom.

When the lesson started I found myself concentrating harder then I ever had before. I was really surprised that I lasted a whole lesson without getting in any trouble. And guess what, I focused on studying all day, I bet the teachers are going to be so proud of me. At the end of the day, Mr. No Fun called my name. “What is he going to say?” I thought. “ I’m very proud of you for being so attentive in class, I’m going to reward you!” says Mr. No Fun enthusiastically...

“Extra homework!” he shouts. “What kinda reward is that?” I shout a bit too loud. “ You don’t like it?” he says angrily. “ I guess he is called Mr. No Fun for a reason.” I think sadly. I grab the homework and dash out of the classroom. I suddenly realize that maybe I should ask mum if I can go to Max’s house. I quickly walk home and ask mom if I can go. “ No! They are going on a vacation tomorrow, let them pack. Maybe when they come back you can visit them”, mum says politely. “Well okay I guess.” I say. Suddenly I realize what I’m in for. “ No friend, all work?” I think. This is going to be the worst day ever!

THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT!

Day 2:

I went to school unhappy today. I had only finished a quarter of my homework and only slept 5 hours. When I thought things could not get any worse, they did. We had P.E. ( Physical education) on the same day I slept 5 hours, plus it was a scalding hot day. Today was just getting worse. At the end of the day I told Mr. No Fun why I haven’t finished my homework. “

I’m giving you one more day, or else...!” he says. “ Okay sir.” I say. I sprint out the classroom and go home faster then a bolt of lightning. When I get home, mum reminds me that I have to go to the dentist. “ I can’t go today I have loads of homework.” I blurt out. Mum gets some pliers. “She won’t do it she’s just joking or…is she??” I remind myself uncertainly. Turns out she was not joking. She ‘did’ pluck out a tooth. I go to my room to study, when the phone rings. “ What now??” I say to myself.

Mum picks it up. “ Hello, Oh Hi! Yep..Yes, got that!” Mum says speaking on the phone. “ Jason, Max wants to talk to you. “ Good, it’s just Max.” I say talking to myself. Mum hands the phone to me. We talk about mum taking my tooth out funny stuff and other things. And then after the phone call I go straight to bed not remembering one big thing!

Day 3:

“ I was talking to my friend on the phone yesterday and I forgot all about the homework, I’m really sorry.” I say. It was the next day and I was explaining to Mr. No Fun why I hadn’t even finished half of my homework in 2 days! “ It’s useless explaining, I gave you 48 hours to do a few pages of homework and you haven’t done anything!” He shouts. “Well I did do some of it but it was pretty less so….” I say. “ Straight to the principal’s office, now!” He shrieks. I rush to the principal’s office. I tell him the whole story from the very start. “You’re suspended!” The mean old principal shouts. “ What? I’m suspended for not doing homework, that’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard!’’ I say. I leave the door open and begin walking to my bag. People start whispering stuff, like “ ‘That boy over there’, got suspended for not doing a few pages of homework” or “ the mean old principal is going bonkers”. At least everyone was on my side. I got home and told mom about today. “Suspended!?” She says. “ Yes suspended.” I say with a big sigh. “Straight to your room now!” she shouts. I have no choice but to do as I was told. I try to think what to do but nothing is coming to my head. “Maybe this is a bad dream or maybe I’m going crazy or the lightbulb inside my head is smashed.” I say to myself slapping my face. “ Maybe, just maybe.” I think.

Day 4:

Turns out I’m not crazy, I just have the worst luck ever. “ What terrible luck will I have today there’s no homework, so I’m fine right?” I wonder. I wake up and walk to the door. It’s not opening. Click! Clack! Click! Clack!. I’m locked in my own room.

“ Mom! Mom! The door is locked!” I shout. No response. I shout again louder this time. “ Open the door mum!” I pound on the door. I can’t believe it, mum must have locked me in here. “ It’s no use” I say to myself feeling very worried. They were a few snacks and a spoon, so I decided to eat them. After I eat a few snacks my brain might start working.” I say to myself. But after I ate a few snacks the only thing I could think of was kicking the door open. My room was the worst place to get stuck in right now because there is no window to break, no vents to crawl through and a locked door that won’t budge, not even if the strongest person slammed into it with full force ( okay maybe the strongest person in the whole wide world might just break it but you get the point). Suddenly, a plate slipped through the little gap of the door and the floor. I immediately knew that someone was here. “ Help me! Help me!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. My heart was pounding. “Open the door!” I shouted louder than I ever had before. Maybe I should call my dad from Egypt ( he is an archaeologist) but I don’t have any devices in here, mum probably took them all. I take the plate and start to eat, nothing comes to me. “ Maybe mum will come and open the in a hour.” I think hopefully. “ Just relax Jason she will eventually come and open the door for me” I say to myself trying really hard to relax. “ But what if she doesn’t come, what will happen then?’’ I think. Hours pass by eventually I go to sleep, not knowing that there is something in that room that I can use to escape my room.

Day 5:

“Gotta wake up and make a plan.” I say to myself half asleep. “Okay kicking the door doesn’t work what else?” I pondered. “Ummm…I know a spoon!”

I shout. I get to my feet and search for the spoon I ate with. “It’s got to be here somewhere. I search on my desk and the floor and under some pillows. “ It’s not here anywhere!” I shout . By now I’m desperate I knock over the chair. I flip over the desk( it’s pretty heavy) but it’s not there. “ Where could it be?” I say desperately. “Maybe it’s in the bin?” I say. I reach inside the bin and grabbed a little handle. It was hard you might be wondering why I really need a spoon. Well two years ago me and Max found out that you can open one of our home’s locked doors with nothing but a spoon!

Now back to the story. I inserted the end of the spoon into the door knob and it opened. Cluck! First thing that came to my mind after the door opened was to find mum. When I found mum I shout, “ Mum why did y—” she cut me of there. “ It was a punishment, I apologize that may have been a little hard on you.” She says. I was outraged. “ A little… you locked me up in there for a whole 24 hours, are you crazy!?” I scream. “ Well, being suspended is a big thing.” She says ignoring my anger. “ Most parents won’t lock there kids for eternity just because they got suspended for not finishing homework!” I shouted. “ Look, I apologize and I won’t lock you up in a room again but please don’t get into too much trouble in school. I have a lot of work on my hands.” She explains. “ Fine, I won’t mum but you have to follow your promise” I say still feeling a bit angry. “Okay! we both have to follow our promises.” She says. “ Or else!” We both say simultaneously.
