Warnings In Dreams?
Maybe They Aren't Dreams At All.
I don't know what is happening. Maybe my room is haunted, or maybe I am having waking dreams.
All I know is the fragments of my mind shatter at 3:A.M every morning. Is it real? Am I dreaming?
My family and friends think I am crazy.
"Our bedroom is haunted," I told my daughter.
"Mum! Don't be silly, ghosts aren't real!" she replied
I take her word for it.
"They could be nightmares," I tell myself.
I make myself a warm milky drink, dim the lights and turn on the radio for some background noise while I try to drift into a peaceful sleep. I was hoping this routine would comfort my mind,
but, I was wrong.
The blankets feel like soft feathers caressing my body, and my pillow sinks, allowing my head to feel protected while I sleep. My bed feels warm on my skin. Feeling content, I drift into a deep sleep.
3:A.M.
I wake up freezing and confused.
"Were there bodies shimmering over my bed?" I ask my husband who is awake earlier than usual.
"You were making ghost noises in your sleep," he tells me.
I tried to activate my brain so that I could recollect what just happened.
I remember seeing a figure that was standing by the wall of my bed. It seemed to be covered in white with a blue aura around it.
I remember seeing three of these figures over the last few nights, though sometimes they were male, other times they were female. They seemed to rotate nights, and I never saw them all at once.
I remember noises.
screaming,
shouting,
screeching.
"What kind of noises?" I ask my husband.
"You were oohing in your sleep, and shouting to someone called Cath. You've done the same thing over the last few nights," he explained.
Feeling a little wary, because I knew the next question could be answered with backlash, I asked if he saw anything strange in the room tonight.
"What! You mean like a real ghost? Don't be silly, and go back to sleep," he retorted in annoyance.
I decided to try and go back to sleep, but I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was wrong.
I drifted off.
I saw all of the same things as I did before, and my husband moved into another room because he couldn't cope with the noises. I started to feel afraid to be alone in the bedroom, so I moved downstairs. I left the light on and I slept peacefully.
3:A.M. the next morning
The same thing happened again.
Screaming,
Shouting,
Screeching.
This time, I heard things being thrown around in my room. I decided not to get out of bed just in case I got hurt, instead, I turned the bedroom lamp on, but everything was the same as it was before I went to sleep.
I decided to shake it from my mind and go back to sleep.
"Maybe it was noises from outside."
I don't remember falling asleep.
I don't feel like I am asleep!
I can feel my eyes blinking, and I can feel the warmth of my husband's arms around me.
However,
I feel the blankets lifting, and my body underneath them feels like it is floating toward the ceiling where I just seem to remain, floating, and stuck. I gasp, as I fight to breathe. Five minutes later, I am surrounded by white bodies with blue auras floating around me and screeching, as I waft my arms around, desperate to get back to my bed.
I can feel the hard surface of the ceiling roof, touching my nose, and I feel several hands wrapping themselves around me, pulling me as if to pull me closer to the ceiling. Suddenly there is a brilliant flash of light, and I am back in my bed, where I lay still, eyes wide, mouth open with no sound coming out of it. I feel cold and sweaty, and I am confused as I don't know what just happened.
I hear the alarm clock ring at 6:A.M. signaling that it is time to get up for work. My husband has already left for work, so I am alone.
I feel sheer terror, but I turn the light on. Everything looks the same as it did before I went to bed. Feeling reassured, I get ready for work and head out of the door fast because I don't want to be at home long.
When I get to work, I find out that there is a serial killer on the loose, and my colleague's daughter is missing.
Ever since that day, I have had the same events happen every night at the same time.
To this day, I am not sure that I am dreaming, but maybe being warned about the events that are about to unfold.
