Wanna Be Yours- Chapter 2
A woman must navigate a side of hers that's always been buried. Question is why didn't she grow up with it?
Milan woke up with a raging headache. Her hands press onto something soft and leafy. Her eyes widen at the sight of an enlarged peony. It had shielded her. Along with some vines that had wrapped her body to slow her fall.
“Thank you.” She smiled, brushing her fingers against the plants. They seem to have a glow in reaction before minimizing. Milan brushed her dress off before walking. Down the plain grass and into a forest. One that wasn’t guarded or protected. One that had a band of questionable characters roaming around. Milan went the other way, lifting her dress as she went down a path. Her eyes flicker to an injured fawn. It’s body caught in a net trap.
“Oh you poor baby.” She whispered. She got on her knees, taking the net apart. The fawn squirmed, as soon as it was free it rose to its legs before flopping back down. Milan brushed her hand against its fur. It was weak, it was evident with all its shaking. She plucked some grass bringing it to their lips.
“Come on. You’re grown enough aren’t you?”
The fawn gave it a few licks before nibbling on it. She stroked its back as she assessed its injuries. Aside from a few scratches they were okay. She lifts them up soon after bringing them along with her.
“Where’s the food?!” Someone shouts.
“I’ll check!” Another shouts.
Milan ran ahead. Panting as the fawn weakly nuzzled into her chest. “You’re alright. I got you.” She reassured. She hid behind a tree, her back pressed against it as she listened to the man shout.
“Damn deer must have got loose!”
Another man approached him. His hand clamping down on his back.
“It’s alright. We’ll just fish.”
“Again boss? Those Celeste’s keep hoarding everything. That’s why there’s a lack of food going around! If we don’t storm in and-”
“Marco. It’s fine” His boss said.
Marco glared pitifully at the net. Hands clenched into fists before reluctantly loosening them. Milan took a deep breath as she walked away. Her foot stepped on a twig, snapping it in half.
“What was that?” Marco whipped his head around. He went to chase it, and Milan held her breath, swiftly walking without looking back. She glanced at a rabbit that hopped passed her and into their line of sights.
“Another chance-”
Marco was going to say. But the rabbit has already hopped off. His boss smiled at him.
“Fish?”
“Oh alright.”
By evening Milan had grown hungry and exhausted. She couldn’t move her feet anymore. Stuck under the tall trees, a sleeping fawn, and her dire situation.
“Why must this be my life?” She asked.
“I wonder why?” Oliver asked.
She whipped her head around, mouth agape as he smiled.
“Oliver?” She smiled.
“My lady.” He said holding his hand out.
She took his hand gently, a rock hooking under her foot, causing her to crash into his chest. He held her shoulders gently.
“Quite a fall there.” He teased.
Milan’s cheeks heated like a furnace. She looked up, eyes getting lost in his.
“Thank you for catching me.”
“I wouldn’t let a lady fall.”
Oliver brushed back Milan’s chocolate brown loose curls.
“I wouldn’t let you fall.” He reworded.
Milan smiled softly.
“Is that so?”
“Mhm.” He smiled.
His finger lingering by her warm ears. His gaze flickers over to her lips. Fine-lined cinnamon berry toned. His thumb almost brushes against it, when he whips his head up. A group of bandits surrounding them.
“Nobles.” A woman sneered.
Milan smiled at her. Despite her malicious tone.
“Yes?” She asked.
“This is not your territory.” The woman states.
Milan furrowed her brows, glancing at Oliver.
“It quite is.”
“It’s lawless. Ours. Ever since Damon Celeste had passed-”
“Vanessa.” Oliver says.
The woman narrowed her eyes at him.
“Judging by the sword you carry, and that crest…”
Duke Leon tapped the hilt of his sword. Humming. His gaze flickers all around. sixteen bandits.
“It’s quite the numbers you’ve got. I could’ve sworn it was more..?”
“It was more. Fighting for food is what costed my people their lives!”
Milan cleared her throat.
“Why is everyone fighting for food?”
“As if you don’t know? You’re wearing a dress that could have fed over a thousand people! You’re spoiled and you’re from…from…?”
Milan blinked.
“House of Celeste.”
Vanessa narrowed her eyes as she took a step closer. Oliver held his arm out but it was futile.
“Since when did they have another daughter?”
“I am the only daughter.”
“No Lady Lucinda is the sole daughter of the late Duke Damon.”
Milan blinked. She gave Oliver a look. A look that he had to look away from.
“I am his daughter. Lucinda is my cousin-”
The bandits laugh.
“Listen sweetheart. I could tell you’re confused. Maybe there’s something wrong up here.” A man snickered, tapping his temple.
“Oh stop it Rodrick. She could have just stolen the dress, I mean that was the dress that belonged to..”
Vanessa paused.
“Lady Mariella?”
With their contemplating looks Oliver sighed. Multiple knights catch the bandits off guard, knocking them down to the ground. Milan gasped at the brutality.
“I am so lost. Oliver, you must explain to me what is going on?!”
He rubbed his forehead as he let sucked in a deep breath.
“As you wish my lady.”
