Unlucky security

How a small prank led to unexpected consequences

By DelunPublished 2 years ago • 3 min read

John worked in a factory where his workshop supervisor was a greedy and mean guy who often found ways to cut workers' bonuses. He also frequently forced his colleagues to treat him to meals, which made everyone dislike him. All the factory workers lived in employee dormitories; John and his co-workers stayed in the dormitory building at the back, while the supervisor lived in a separate little house at the front. One night, after finishing his night shift and returning to the dormitory, John suddenly remembered he had some firecrackers in his pocket left over from playing with his son during the holiday. Thinking of the supervisor's annoying face, John got a mischievous idea. Noticing that no one was around, he quietly took out two firecrackers, threw them hard at the supervisor's window, and then ran away. The next day, seeing the supervisor with red eyes and yawning all the time, John felt very pleased. From then on, every time the supervisor cut his co-workers’ bonuses or forced them to treat him, whenever it was John's turn to work the night shift, he would throw a couple of firecrackers at the supervisor's window. Seeing the supervisor looking tired and angry the next day brought John a sense of balance.

On this day, it was John's turn to work the night shift again. Because the supervisor had extorted a good cigarette from him a few days ago, this time John planned to throw even more firecrackers as revenge. Unexpectedly, just as he took out the firecrackers and was about to throw them, a fat security guard suddenly appeared and caught him on the spot. As they were all employees of the same factory and knew each other, John begged the fat guard to let him go and promised never to throw them again. The fat guard expressionlessly pulled John aside and said in a low voice, "No, you need to throw them again!" John was taken aback and didn’t understand what he meant. Then the fat guard whispered something to John, and he finally understood what was going on.

It turned out that there were two security guards taking turns to patrol the dormitory, and John and his co-workers also worked night shifts in rotation, so their schedules coincided. Every time the supervisor complained to the fat guard's leader, the leader would scold the fat guard, saying he must be sleeping on duty, otherwise, why was everything fine when others were on duty? Therefore, the fat guard wanted John to change his shift time to throw firecrackers again so that their leader would change his mind. After hearing this, John immediately agreed, but if he changed his shift time, he wouldn’t be able to work the night shift, meaning he would have to get up in the middle of the night to throw firecrackers, which was very inconvenient. At that moment, the factory arranged for John to go on a business trip, so he thought of his closest colleague, Wang, whose night shift schedule happened to be different. When John told Wang about it, he immediately agreed.

A few days later, when John returned from the business trip, he went to find Wang right away to ask how things went. To his surprise, as soon as Wang saw him, he hurriedly pulled him aside and said with a relieved expression, "Thank goodness you were on a business trip; otherwise, this would have been a hassle!" John quickly asked, "What happened?" Wang smiled wryly and explained, "That fat guard was so unlucky! A few days ago, their leader said he was sleeping on duty, and he didn’t accept it, so they switched the shifts of the two guards to see if he was wronged." John was stunned and worriedly asked, "What about the fat guard now that the shifts have been switched?" Wang looked sympathetic and replied, "When the fat guard saw the shift change, he rushed to the workshop to find you, but when he heard you were on a business trip, he thought everything was fine. However, I didn’t know about this, and that night I threw three firecrackers. In his frustration, the fat guard actually revealed your name! Unexpectedly, when their leader checked and found out you were on a business trip, he was furious and said that not only did he not take his job seriously and sleep on duty, but he also had poor character by falsely accusing someone. So he was directly fired!"
