The pounding stopped suddenly.
Lox unclenched her jaw and pressed her ear to the door her body had just been braced against. She held her breath as she listened, but couldn’t hear anything except the blood coursing through her body loud as bullets. The silence did nothing to ease the tension in her muscles. It didn’t make sense that the relentless attack would end so abruptly after hours.
She waited.

“Update” growled Scubbard.
“She hasn’t moved, I can’t even see her breathing,” Board replied. “Should they resume?”
“Patience,” Scubbard said while trying to conceal a grin before walking away.
