RIAN and BRITTNEY, both attractive young ladies are standing

in the middle of an aisle looking at a four pack of toilet

paper. Rian, dressed in brown cowboy boots, blue jean pants,

a plaid shirt, over an olive green undershirt, and a brown

cowboy hat, shakes her head in disgust.

BRITTNEY

Unbelievable

RIAN

God, these prices suck.

Rian rolls her eyes in annoyance.

BRITTNEY

Ten bucks for this, it's extortion.

Brittney, wearing a pink summer dress, white shoes, and a

white cowboy hat, grabs at a pack of beef jerky. Looks at

Rai, who shakes her head no, then looking defeated, puts it

back.

RIAN

Sorry babe, fifteen dollars for jerky?

Ain't happening.

Rian gives Brittney an apologetic look.

BRITTNEY

It would have been cheaper to make it

at home. Speaking of which, can we get

a dehydrator?

Brittney looks excitedly at Rian.

RIAN

Babe, relax. I still have to earn my

first paycheck.

Brittney kisses Rian's cheek and runs over to grab some soda.

CASHIER.

As Brittney comes back to Rian, she looks happy. Bill over

hears their conversation.

BRITTNEY

These good choices?

Rian opens her wallet to show only fifteen dollars. Brittney

starts to look disappointed.

RIAN

Soda, or toilet paper?

BRITTNEY

Toilet paper.

Brittney defeated, takes the soda back. Bill heads back up to

the cash register. Brittney walks back to Rian.

RIAN

Soon, things will get better.

BRITTNEY

I know we don't need the soda. Still

sucks.

In the background, Bill and Connie are paying the cashier and

leave. Taking the toilet paper, and grabbing a bottle of

water, Rian and Brittney walk to the register. They put their

supplies on the counter. Rian reaches for her fifteen

dollars.

CASHEIR

I was told to tell you to keep your

money.

Rian gets a puzzled look on her face.

CASHEIR

That couple who just left said that

they were gifting you forty-dollars

towards your purchase.

Really?

Oh my God!

at the cashier.

RIAN

Incredible.

CASHEIR

There are still nice people out there.

Brittney comes up behind Rian with soda and some snacks. She

sits the items on the counter, and Rian leans over to kiss

her.

BRITTNEY

Thanks, Mister.

After the transaction, Brittney and Rian grab their supplies

and walk out.

3 EXT. BOULDER CREEK CAMPGROUND-EVENING

RIAN is putting some wood on the campfire. BRITTNEY is

singing and playing her guitar.

RIAN

You sure do sound pretty. I love to

hear you sing.

Rian is hunched over the fire stoking the flame wit a stick.

Brinttney looks down at the guitar.

BRITTNEY

You make me blush, but I sing just for

you.

Rian sits down on the right side of Brittney. Rian looks

around.

BRITTNEY

Well, we are celebrating.

Rian looks at Brittney, and slides a bit closer. Brittney

nuzzles her head into Rian's shoulder. Rian touches

Brittney's thigh.

RIAN

I'm just anxious.

Brittney sits up and looks hard at Rian.

BRITTNEY

Don't be. You deserve this. You've

worked hard to get this job.

Rian bends down and gets a couple of sodas. She hands one to

Brittney and they toast.

RIAN

To new beginnings!

Rian and Brittney hit their cans together and start to

giggle.

BRITTNEY

Life's gonna change for the better.

A voice comes from off camera.

CONNIE

Look Bill, it's the two lovebirds from

the store.

BILL and CONNIE walk towards Rain and Brittney's campsite.

Brittney looks a bit confused as the couple gets closer.

Hello?

BRITTNEY

CONNIE

Hi, I'm Connie, and this is my husband

Bill. We we just on a stroll and

noticed you two seemed to be

celebrating.

RIAN

BRITTNEY

Thank you both, so much! It really

meant a lot to us.

Brittney lets go of the hug and tears up.

BRITTNEY

You two are the nicest ever.

Connie pats Brittney on the back.

CONNIE

It's no problem. You two looked like

you could use some kindness.

RIAN

Would you like to join us? It's the

least we could do

Bill walks up and shakes hands with Rian.

BILL

I'm Bill, nice to meet you.

RIAN

Rian, and this is Brittney.

Rian points at Brittney. Connie takes a seat across from

Rian.

CONNIE

That sounds nice, I'm Connie by the

way.

BRITTNEY

It's really nice to meet you both.

Bill and Brittney shake hands. Connie digs into her bag for

her crocheting needles and some yarn. Bill sits next to

Connie.

Brittney leans over and gives Rian a peck on the cheek.

BILL

Well, hell, congratulations.

Rian gets a smile.

RIAN

Thank you. I landed a job at an army

base near Paradise's Bluff.

Connie looks up from her craft approvingly.

CONNIE

That's lovely, Bill and I are from the

Bluff.

Bill nods approvingly.

BILL

Those jobs pay fairly well.

Bill stands up.

BILL

I know just the thing. Excuse me for a

moment.

Bill heads out back away from the campsite.

CONNIE

Soon you'll be rolling in the money.

BRITTNEY

I sure hope so.

RIAN

I've never had steady work like this

before.

CONNIE

You'll do well, I'm sure.

Rian looks at Brittney.

RIAN

Brittney grabs her guitar tightly, and starts to play. She

starts to sing a melancholy song.

MOMENTS LATER

Bill comes back with some drinks. He sits back down next to

Connie and leans towards her. He whispers in her ear.

BILL

What did I miss?

CONNIE

Rian was just talking about her

nervousness over the new job.

Brittney finishes her song. Bill over enthusiastically claps.

BILL

Bravo my dear! Bravo! Truly special.

Brittney gets a bit shy at the compliment.

BRITTNEY

Thank you, Bill.

Bill hands drinks all around as he sits down.

BILL

So tell us about yourselves.

CONNIE

Bill! They don't know us from Adam.

Sorry girls.

Brittney looks at her drink and puts it down.

BRITTNEY

Maybe later.

genuinely asking us questions.

Connie gives an approving look. Bill takes a drink. Connie

goes back to crocheting.

BRITTNEY

My family doesn't speak to me. Hell,

this trip feels like it's the first

time things have gone right for us in

a long time.

BILL

Why would your family shun a lovely

girl like you?

BRITTNEY

My father doesn't approve of who I

chose to marry.

Connie looks a Brittney.

CONNIE

Oh?

Rian clenches her jaw.

RIAN

It's always been this way. We were

teased in school for being different.

Brittney stares into the fire. She speaks with a bitter look

on her face.

BRITTNEY

People don't seem to like seeing two

pretty dykes together.

Bill gets a sympathetic look on his face.

BILL

Kids can be cruel. I'm sorry.

BRITTNEY

Adults aren't any better.

CONNIE

You're two sweet girls. We don't

judge.

and shakes her head.

BRITTNEY

Rian got a text saying that he needed

to be raped real good, and know what a

man feels like.

Connie sympathetically looks at Rain.

CONNIE

You poor thing.

Rian hugs Brittney.

RIAN

It's hard to survive when nobody wants

to rent to a lesbian couple.

BILL

We'd rent to you two any day.

Brittney looks at Bill with a puzzled expression. Bill gets

up and moves to sit between Brittney and Rian.

BILL

We know a thing or two about being

landlords. Connie and I have our own

real estate investment company.

CONNIE

We just happen to have a few places in

Paradise's Bluff.

Brittney gets an excited expression.

BRITTNEY

That's awesome.

Brittney looks at Rian.

Brittney then gives Bill an enthusiastic hug. Bill looks at

Connie and she smiles back.

BILL

As impressive as that may sound, we've

ran into a slight problem.

Brittney's face turns from excitement to defeat. Rian has a

similar reaction to the news.

BILL

We invested in an apartment complex.

It looked promising at first, but it's

quickly become a money pit.

RIAN

Oh.

BILL

Now we've seem to become slum lords.

CONNIE

William! Don't you dare call us that.

A fearful look comes across Bill's face.

CONNIE

We honestly do try to make sure our

places are as good as can be.

Rian gets a look on her face that says she doesn't really

believe Connie. Connie puts down her crocheting.

CONNIE

We believe that everyone should have a

decent place to stay, regardless of

their income.

Brittney gets a hopeful look in her eyes.

CONNIE

Not everyone can have a luxury

apartment, and none of ours are, but

even low income should be able to

maintain a level of dignity.

Bill nods in agreement and takes a swig of his drink.

BILL

Hell, we've been there ourselves.

Rian gets up and kneels in front of Brittney. She grabs

Brittney's hand and kisses it.

RIAN

It's gonna be okay. Life is starting

to look up.

Bill grabs the bottles and takes them back to the box behind

Connie. Then he sits down next to his wife. Rian looks over

her shoulder towards Connie and Bill.

RIAN

We've been dealing with judgmental

people for so long... it's just nice

to meet people who are different.

BILL

It's no problem.

CONNIE

Besides, you did get that new job.

BRITTNEY

Yeah, that'll help.

Brittney pats her belly.

BRITTNEY

Our baby will have a better chance

than we did.

Bill and Connie react to the news.

BILL

Baby?

Rian and Brittney giggle at the reaction. Rian then stands

up.

RIAN

We're having a baby!

Connie gets an even more puzzled look on her face.

touched your drink. We should

celebrate!

Bill hands Rian a shot. The smell makes Brittney

nauseous.Brittney whispers to Rian.

BRITTNEY

I'm not feeling so good. I think I'm

gonna lie down.

RIAN

Okay baby.

Brittney looks at Connie and Bill.

BRITTNEY

I'm sorry, I think the baby is telling

me to settle down. I'm gonna turn in

for the night.

CONNIE

Get some rest dear.

BILL

Take care.

Brittney gets up and goes to the trailer. Bill tries to hand

Connie a shot, but she declines.

CONNIE

No thanks Sweetie, but you two have

fun. I'm feeling a bit tuckered

myself.

Connie gets up, gives Bill a kiss, and heads towards her

trailer.

completely wrapped up in a blanket. The sun from the vent is

pouring down into Rian's eyes. The sunlight causes Rian to

stir. As she opens her eyes, Rian turns her head towards

Brittney who appears to have her back towards Rian. Rian

starts to feels sick and turns her head towards the edge of

With a painful expression on her face, Rian pushes herself up

off the floor. She rubs the spot that she landed on with her

right hand.

RIAN

Urp!

Rian looks like she's going to get sick again when she feels

the vomit covering her leg and hand.

RIAN

Shit!

Rian looks towards Brittney to make sure she didn't get

disturbed. Rian hobbles to the sink and gets a washcloth wet.

She then wipes herself down.

RIAN

Never drinking rum again.

Rian throws the washcloth into the sink. She washes her hands

and rubs her temples. She limps towards the bathroom, pulls

Rian looks towards the bed.

Brit? Baby?

With another bump, the trailer jerks up, knocking Rian to the

floor. Rian tries to get up quickly, but as she raises, she

smacks her head on the table, and knocks herself out.

5 EXT. BOULDER CREEK CAMPGROUND-NIGHT BILL and RIAN are still celebrating.

BILL

I hope she gets to feeling better.

Rian holds up her shot glass.

RIAN

Fix this for me, will ya?

Bill grabs her glass, and fills both glasses up. He then

hands Rian back her glass.

Rian starts trying to get back to her feet. As she gets

good for us for once. I'm just scared.

Connie walks over to Brittney and gets closer to talk. Then

she gives Brittney a hug.

CONNIE

It's gonna be alright Sweetie. Things

are going to be okay.

Brittney looks unsure of herself. Tears start to roll down

Brittney's cheeks as she shuffles back a few steps.

BRITTNEY

Brittney gets a disgusted look on her face.

when my mom died. He started drinking,

but it didn't stop there...

Connie gets a shocked look on her face.

He hit you?

Brittney nodded.

Brittney falls to her knees. Connie moves in like she's going

to try and catch Brittney.

CONNIE

I know it's scary, but you have Rian.

BRITTNEY

My childhood was so fucked up. I don't

want this baby's life to be hard.

CONNIE

You can only do your best. You and

Rian seem to have good heads on your

shoulders.

BRITTNEY

After all the abortions, this may be

my only chance to have a re-do.

Connie gets a scowl across her face.

CONNIE

What did you say?

Brittney gets frightened and starts to scoot back.

BRITTNEY

CONNIE

There are other options!

Connie lifts the shovel above her head.
