unexpected gifts

You open the door to go get the paper and you see a drone approaching with package wrapped in brown paper. You go get the paper and pick up the package. When you get it inside you start to inspect it. You notice that it doesn’t have a mailing label on it. You decide to open it. What is inside is a surprise. It is a little stuffed teddy bear. You look in the bottom of the box and see a note. It says I have admired you from afar and wanted to show my appreciation. You think this sweet but are also wondering who could have left it. You live in the country with a long driveway.

The next day when you are out to lunch with your friend you tell them about the package and what was inside. They think it is sweet but also want you to be careful. They wonder how any got up your drive without you noticing. You were also wondering the same thing. You discuss whether you should get a camera. You decide it was not necessary because you have dogs. You will later come to regret not putting cameras up.

A week later on the same day of the week you get another package. This time it contained a handmade bracelet with your name on it. You once again think this is sweet. This time the note says I hope you like the bracelet. I know how much you like handmade items. This time you tell a different friend, and they say the same thing. They think it is sweet but be careful.

The next week it was just an envelope. Inside was a letter that said. I have watched you for years and really admire you. I want to thank you for helping me through some tough times in my life. Your words mean a lot to me and other people. I hope to get to meet you one day. At this point you are thinking it is either a sweet fan or a secret admirer. You decide to write them back. You thank them for their kind words and the gifts you have received. You also say that maybe you will meet one day. You will regret saying this. You leave at on the porch the night before you are expecting another gift.

You wake up the next morning and there is nothing on the porch. You see that the letter you left is gone. You are a little disappointed that you did not receive a gift. You are hoping that they where just surprised by your note and maybe planning on responding to it.

The next week you open the door and find a package this time. You are a little shocked at what you find inside. It is an expensive watch. The following day you open the door and find another package. This time it is a diamond ring, a diamond bracelet, and diamond earrings. You finally are concerned about this person. These are way too expensive of gifts. You decide to write them another letter. You say thank you but that you can not accept such expensive gifts. You leave the gifts and the note on the porch.

The following day when you get up you notice the letter is gone. You also notice that the gifts are smashed into pieces. You call your friend over because you do not feel safe anymore. The next few days are quiet. Then you start to get hang up phone calls. Then they progress to hearing breathing on the other end of the line. Then they just get nasty. The person is yelling at you. Saying why did you not like my gifts and that you will regret rejecting them.

You go to file a police report, but you fear it may be to late this person knows where you live and your phone number. You have police patrolling your street and coming by your house. You did not want to leave your house. That was your final mistake.

A month goes by with nothing happening. The police have stopped coming by your house. You get home from work and the door is unlocked. You could have sworn you locked it. You dismiss it. You are getting ready for bed when suddenly, the closet door opens, and someone steps out of the closet. They have a knife. You scream and try to run away but they catch you and start to stab you. They leave you alive for a while before the deliver the fatal blow straight through your heart.
