Why do they scream so loudly? he thought. The door had been unlocked—an open invitation. Its oiled hinges were silent as he closed it behind him. Shoes off, he made no sound as he crept upstairs.
“I’m home!” he shouted. The excitement of his daughters nearly blew out his eardrums.
