U & I (OPENING, ACT 1 SCENE 1 &2)

This play I wrote it after the Charlottesville protest. I was devastated by the shocking event where all these Neo-nazi group members protesting in Virginia it made ill. I didn't understand why hate is still going on and still going on to this day. I started writing my poem "Dear Hate Groups" it was like an open letter to them to say "Hey! Even though why can't we get along" (the poem was during the protest)  So then I thought for a moment and decided why can't I write my own Romeo and Juliet type of play. So I wrote "U & I" and the magic began. This time fitting in Shakespeare's shoes, writing it in my own words, and putting some of his inspiration in this play.

SYNOPSIS: Inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet play,  this story holds a tale about a young man name Rowan, a Caucasian falls for an African American young woman name Judith despite their families disapproval because Rowan's family is part of the White Men's Club (a racist white supremacists gang whose against blacks, gays, immigrants, and Muslims) and her family is black and anti-racism.

There are no Lady Capulet and Lady Montague both are dead, no Frair Lawrence, Mayor is just Mayor, Some ensembles are Virginia residents. This play may seem controversial or confusing but in time everyone will understand.

Prologue

NARRATOR

Two different households from the state of Virginia. In a town of Charlottesville, where it holds a story of two young people who fall in love. A young white boy and A young black girl brought together despite their families’ hate, racism, and disapproval. Until an unfortunate life taken out by a bullet from a hate member. For the next two hours, you will watch this story and learn the lesson from ungrateful hatred to unconditional love. This isn’t just a Shakespearean inspiration. This is a love and a tragedy story of Rowan and Judith.

ACT I

SCENE 1

SETTING: Charlottesville, VA

AT RISE: Outside of the town of Charlottesville, a city of Virginia, The WHITE MENS CLUB, a white supremacists group wearing white t-shirts and jeans gathering with torches, baseball bats and clubs on their hands protesting. BOLT, leader of the White Men’s Club speaks out loud with his megaphone. On the side of the megaphone, Confederate flag sticker and “WP” (White Power).

BOLT (speaking in megaphone) Who are the best?

WHITE MENS WE ARE!!!

BOLT (speaking in megaphone) My Fellow White Brothers, we are gather here to stop this madness. We the White Men, who are sick and tired. Sick and tired of equality. Human beings are not meant to equal; the races are not meant to equal. The Negroes don’t respect our country, Muslims terrorizing our country, and homosexuals are perverts who want to prey on our white children should all burn in hell. We will stand tall in front of these freaks and nigglets and tell them that this country belongs us to the whites only. All white children will be educated by our white teachers. No nigger children are allowed in the schooling system. This is our homeland and we have a right to what's ours. We have rights to protect what’s ours.

(BOLT does the Nazi salute. WHITE MENS kept cheering.)

BOLT (screaming megaphone) WE ARE ONE GOD, ONE NATION, FOREVER WHITE POWER!!!!

WHITE MENS YEAH!!!!! WHITE POWER, WHITE POWER, WHITE POWER!!!

BOLT & WHITE MENS (megaphone) WHITE POWER!! WHITE POWER!!

(FLOYD enters with his son TODD and his friends, MARCUS and CAMERON. FLOYD snatches the megaphone away from BOLT.)

FLOYD (megaphone) HEY, HEY. SHUT UP. ALL OF YOU.THIS IS ENOUGH.

(The WHITE MENS CLUB stops hollering.)

FLOYD (CONT’D) YOU GO HOME!!!! All your nonsense is causing too much in this neighborhood. You men don’t belong here. All of you don’t belong here. NOW LEAVE!

(The WHITE MENS laugh and mock FLOYD. BOLT in front of FLOYD’S face.)

BOLT Oh yeah. And who’s going to make me huh. This is fucking America, buddy. Don’t like it? Leave! Go back to where you came from, you hear me.

TODD Hey, man you better get away from him.

BOLT Or else what?

(TODD says nothing and glances at BOLT.)

BOLT That’s what I thought. Look at this, Stupid dumb nigger can’t even say shit.

(MEN start to laugh. TODD throws a punch at BOLT. The WHITE MENS CLUB starts to attack. TODD friends: MARCUS, CAMERON and other neighbors intervene in the fight. Two Police Officers including CHIEF, the police chief of Virginia enters.)

POLICEMEN FREEZE!!! EVERYBODY!!!! STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING!!!

(CHIEF fires two warning shots in the air. Everyone startled and stopped fighting and lay down their weapons.)

CHIEF ENOUGH!!!!!! EVERYBODY GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!!!

(Everybody is down. FLOYD is now on the ground with blood on his face.)

CHIEF (to Floyd) You alright, Floyd?

FLOYD HELL NO. These fools attacked me. Ow.

CHIEF Don’t worry I’ll send help right away.

CHIEF (CONT’D) (talking on his two way) I need some back up we got one man injured.

(CHIEF sees BOLT.)

CHIEF Well, what do you know? If it isn’t Bradley starting another domestic rally, I see.

BOLT It’s Bolt. You swine.

CHIEF (to Officers) Take him away!

(POLICE OFFICERS pick BOLT up and exit. BLACKOUT. END OF SCENE 1.)

ACT I

SCENE 2

SETTING: Judith’s House; Living Room

AT RISE: Inside of Judith’s House, Natalie is sitting in the living room watching TV eating corn chips. Judith enters. Natalie sees Judith.

NATALIE Hey girl!

JUDITH (surprised) Uh, hey, you’re here. In my house.

NATALIE Yeah.

JUDITH Why?

NATALIE Oh, my mom’s at work overnight at the store and the power shut off at our house, so I thought I drop in and see you.

JUDITH How did you get in here? I didn’t hear a knock on the door.

NATALIE Your keys were under the mat.

JUDITH Oh.

NATALIE I hope you don’t mind me crashing in.

JUDITH (sarcastic) No, not at all.

JUDITH (CONT’D) Stay! Eat! Whatever!

NATALIE Oh yeah, why didn’t I think of that?

JUDITH Because you have been doing that for years.

NATALIE And that’s why you love me.

JUDITH (rolls her eyes) Yeah whatever.

(JUDITH and NATALIE both sat on the couch. JUDITH grabs the remote and turns on the TV. The local news is on.)

REPORTER (V.O) Now Tonight, a white supremacist group WHITE MENS CLUB rallied outside at the town center. Two people were injured. Four men have been arrested. Police are currently investiga-.

(JUDITH turns off the TV.)

JUDITH Unbelievable. How sick is that!

NATALIE I know. I can’t believe I ate the last corn chips. You got anymore?

JUDITH No and no, I mean, this. This Whole white supremacist starting a riot. Like this isn’t the first time.

NATALIE Oh yeah. Man, this is BS. And the government is not condemning this type of terrorism. Even if it was the black community, we’re the ones getting shot. This is such bull crap.

JUDITH What can the government do?

NATALIE I don’t know. Do you think they’ll listen to us? *****THIS IS JUST A SAMPLE********
