Chapter 1

A Mysterious House

The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. No one knew who was lighting it.

Everywhere in London, there was talk of the mysterious cabin. Why was the cabin mysterious? Because, as you already know, a candle was lit every night from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. People had different opinions. Some thought that there was a gang of thieves in the cabin, others that they were a man/men hiding from the police. No man dared to go and see who was in the cabin. But one day. ..

Chapter 2

Mr. Daniel Fork

It was evening. Mr. Daniel Fork was in the luxurious living room of his large villa on the hill. The curtains were woven with gold thread, chairs with velvet pillows, and a fluffy carpet adorned the luxury living room. Although Mr. Daniel Fork had a luxurious house, he was sad. He was sad because he thought it was his duty to find out the mystery of the lighted candle, but he was afraid. An indescribable fear. But until Mr. Daniel Fork thinks, I'll tell you something about him.

Mr. Daniel Fork was the third child in a family of five. His parents — Abram Fork and Agnes Fork — were rich and well-known people. At the age of twenty-three, Daniel Fork married Elisabeth Smith. They had three children: Ann-Lydia, John-Philip, and Deborah-Ruth.

Mr. Daniel Fork was a gendarme. That's why he thought it was his duty to find out the mystery. And if he wasn't a coward, he wasn't brave either.

Chapter 3

The Departure of Mr. Daniel Fork to Find out the Mystery

Finally, Mr. Daniel Fork decides to go to the forest to find out the mystery. He took a rifle, a blanket, a lantern, and some food. He couldn't find the purpose of the food, but his wife told him to take food as well. Maybe-she said -you would need it. And so Mr. Daniel Fork left…

Once he reached the forest, all the courage he had left him. And I'm not surprised.

It was a moonless night. The dark shadows that moved in the wind, looked like finite who wanted to swallow you. Wolves howled and owls flew in all directions making frightening noises. In spring (day) the forest looks like a corner of heaven, but now you couldn't even imagine something like that in the woods.

Poor Mr. Daniel Fork was barely walking, he felt bad because he was very afraid. But the thought that he would be the one who could solve the mystery gave him courage. So step by step he arrived in front of the cabin. A gust of wind extinguished his lantern, but not before he read what was written on the door. EVERYONE WHO ENTERED HERE WAS NOT OUT! Mr. Daniel Fork's feet softened and he felt faint. Now that the lantern had been extinguished the forest seemed more frightening. But gathering the little courage he still had, he open the door…

Chapter 4

Two Shining Eyes

The first thing Mr. Daniel Fork saw when he entered the cabin was two shiny eyes in the darkest corner of the room. That scared him very, very much. He almost fell on the floor when he heard a harsh voice...” I would like to…” but Mr. Daniel Fork didn't hear anything. He broke it on the run. He ran and ran and didn't stop. So he ran to the gate of his house and there he collapsed exhausted and immediately fainted. When he woke up he was in his bed. A doctor was smiling at him. "You were brave," said the doctor, "I would not have had the courage to go to the forest. Did you find anything?"

"Yes," replied Mr. Daniel Fork, "two shiny eyes that look at you from a corner and a voice tell you,” I'd like to...” I haven't heard more."

Chapter 5

The Letter

After Mr. Daniel Fork recovered, he began writing a letter to the King and Queen about his adventure:

October 211, 19000

Respected King and Queen,

Greetings! Maybe you found something about my adventure, but I will tell you more details.

It took me a long time to decide to go to the forest but I went. I took a rifle, a blanket, a lantern, and some food with me.

The forest was scary. Wolves howled, owls flew and made loud noises, and the shadows didn't seem friendly. When I arrived in front of the cabin a gust of wind extinguished the lantern, but not before I saw what was written on the door. Was written EVERYONE WHO COMES IN HERE, DON'T COME OUT! That scared me, but I still had a little courage to enter the cabin. There in the darkest corner of the cabin two bright eyes were looking at me. Then a harsh voice said to me '' I would like you … '' But I didn't hear anymore. I was running and running. When I got to the gate of my house I fainted. When I woke up I was in bed. That's my story.

I wish beautiful day!

Regards,

Mr. Daniel Fork

Chapter 6

Mr. James York

It was evening. In the great drawing-room of Mr. James York's house the light of the fire made the room cozy. Mr. James York was not as rich as Mr. Daniel Fork, and his house (of Mr. James York) was not as luxurious. James York was troubled, he was thinking about the mystery of the abandoned house. He wanted to know the mystery, but he was not brave enough to go to the forest. But now I will tell you something about him and his family.

Mr. James York was born in a quiet house in the Swiss Alps. He was the fifth child in a family of eight. The parents- Peter York and Eunice York- worked hard to get what they and their children ate. When James was eight, his family moved to London. There his father began all kinds of business, and they began to get rich. At the age of thirty, Mr. James York married Amelia Snow. They had six children: Albert, Sofia, Ellen, Joseph, Joshua, and Emily.

Even if his father was a businessman, Mr. James Smith was a lawyer. His wife was a history teacher at London High School. Among his many qualities, we can say that Mr. James York was brave. Even though he was afraid now, he was brave. There is a lot to tell about his courage, but now is not the time for stories.

Chapter 7

Mr. James York Goes to the Forest

Eventually, Mr. James York decided to go into the woods. He took a rifle and a lantern with him. It was a moonless night. The woods were as frightening as the night Mr. Daniel Fork went into the woods. He walked with fear toward the cabin, and in the window, he saw the candle. Step by step he arrived in front of the cabin. When he arrived in front of the cabin he noticed that the candle disappeared. And his lantern was extinguished by a gust of wind. I can't understand why, but he didn't light his lantern again. That's it.

Mr. James York opened the door, which made a loud noise. Two shiny eyes looked at him from a corner. Then he heard the voice "I'd like to kill you!" He managed to stay brave, and with a trembling hand, he lit the lantern. And there it was…

Chapter 8

Mr. James York Solves the Mystery

With the lantern on, he managed to solve the first mystery. The eyes belonged to a ... CAT… But the voice? The candle? Suddenly the door opened - with a terrifying noise - a horrible being appeared. His uncombed hair looked like a haystack, his skin was wrinkled and battered, his clothes torn and stained with blood - as Mr. James York believed. Poor Mr. James York who until now had behaved like a brave man now wanted to faint. He took the rifle and prepared for the village. PROC. The man was still standing. PROC. Now the bullet struck the man's hand. With a mocking laugh the man took off his mask - Mr. James York did not guess that the man had a mask - and there was… TIMOTHY RAIN… son of Mr. Andrew Rain!

"What an ugly prank," cried Mr. James York, "poor Mr. Daniel Fork was going to die of fright! What went through your mind to do on the ghost! Are you a criminal? You deserve to be sued! We were dying of fear and you were having fun at the expense of some honest people!

Chapter 9

It was a beautiful September day. The 12th-grade students were on break. A group of seven students - including Ann-Lidia Folk and Sofia York - discussed in the school lobby:

"I'd like to know," said Emily Brown, "who's the bravest man in London!"

"And I want to," said Charles Blow, "it's one of my greatest wishes. And I have a plan!"

"Really? Tell it!" Sofia York shouted excitedly.

"Sure!" Charles Blow replied, "Do you know the abandoned cabin in the woods? I thought of putting a candle in the window every night from 8:00 to 10:00. Then in one corner of the room to tie a cat and one us she will dress like a very ugly and frightening scarecrow. We'll put red paint on the clothes to make them look like blood. How will we proceed? If a man approaches the house we will extinguish the candle. If someone enters the cabin one of us will whisper "I would like to kill you!" The cat's eyes will shine. If he lights the lantern, the one chosen to whisper will hide quickly. After a few seconds, the one dressed as a scarecrow must enter the room. Certainly, the brave man will try to shoot him. The scarecrow will have to know how to avoid it. When he wants, he'll tell the brave man who he is. That's the plan. "

"Great!" Emily Brown exclaims. "But we need to do something to turn off the man's lantern before he enters the house." He will come with the lantern-lit. ”

"Yes," said Sofia York, "I have an idea! There is only one good crack in the wall of the house for one of us to hide. I have a noiseless hair dryer at home. We can use it as wind. ''

"Wonderful!" Said Emily Brown

"We have some more to talk about," said Charles Blow. "Who wants to be “scarecrow”?"

"Me!" Said Timothy Rain.

"O.K.," said Charles Blow, "Who wants to whisper?"

All were quiet.

"Then I," Charles Blow offered, "Who wants to put out the lantern?"

"I!" Said Andrew Fan.

"Very well!" Said Charles Blow, "Does anyone have a cat?"

"I!" Said Ruth Cobb.

"But a big candle?" Charles Blow asked.

"I!" Said Ann-Lidia Fork.

"I have something more to say," said Charles Blow, "I think we must give a reward to the bravest.

"I will give 200 pounds." Said Ann-Lidia Fork.

"I will give 250 pounds." Sofia York said, glad she could give more than Ann-Lidia Fork even if she didn't have much money left, but Ann-Lidia Fork still had a lot.

"Unfortunately I can't have more than 10 pounds," said Charles Blow.

"There is no problem. You have done a lot for us. ” Said, Sofia York.

"I will give 100 pounds." Said Timothy Rain.

"I will give 300 pounds." Said Ruth Cobb.

"I'm giving 50 pounds," said Emily Brown

"I will give 150." Said Andrew Fan.

"Very well," said Charles Blow, "we have 1,060 pounds. I'd say to give only 1,000. We'll use the rest of the money for something to eat for us."

And so they did as you well know…

Chapter 10

The Reward

As Mr. James York scolded Timothy Rain, the door opened again and the entire 12th-grade group except for Andrew Fan and Charles Blow appeared. What a surprise Mr. James York was to see Sofia among them!

"You are the winner of the competition, the bravest man in London!" Said Emily Brown, giving him £ 1,000.

Then Emily explained the competition and its reason.

You can't imagine how proud Mr. James York was when he was able to solve the mystery!
