Mikey loved his grandpa Joe. they went fishing on Saturday mornings then grandpa would take Mikey to his local little league boys and girls baseball games at the park. They'd finish the day off, getting milkshakes at the diner where grandma worked.
Yet all of that came to a sudden halt when grandpa got into a car accident. It wasn't his fault. He was rear ended by a deliver driver who was drunk behind the wheel. The air bag in Grandpa Joe's steering wheel didn't work, slamming his head directly into the steering wheel, giving him a sudden concussion. He also passed out.
Grandpa was taken to the hospital. The doctor and nurses spent hours, trying to save him. But he had internal bleeding, causing a blood clot. Within a few hours he was dead.
Mikey was heart broken when his mother told him the news. He couldn't imagine life without his grandpa being a part of it. He didn't even want to attend the funeral. He didn't know if he could glance at his grandpa's remains or not, but he built up the courage for his parents.
Mikey crept toward the coffin set near the front of the church. He peaked inside the coffin and saw grandpa Joe. Mikey pulled his favorite fishing lure from his pocket as well as a baseball and gently laid it beside grandpa. He then felt someone touch his shoulder. It felt warm and safe.
Although grandpa Joe was gone, Mikey suddenly felt his presence in spirit. He knew grandpa Joe was resting, yet would always be with him.
