Truth Is
a 200 word story
“Where were you?” She hid her suspicions under blankets, hoping he’d coax her out with honesty.
“Told you where I was goin’.” He hopped on his right foot while tugging his left sock.
“It’s just that—“ She noticed the red marks on his collar.
Again.
“It’s just that what, Amy?” He yanked his t-shirt over his head; threw it hard at the floor.
Dirtbag. “Nothin’.”
“Finish what you were sayin’. It’s just that what?”
Scumball. “Pearl saw you.”
“Who in the heck is that now?”
“My girlfriend.” Her voice peeked out and disappeared back down her throat.
“Hmmph.”
“Pete. She saw you go into Doll’s. You promised you were goin’ to the gym but… did you?”
“That gal’s blind as a mule on a cold winter’s day.” He hurried off the rest of his clothes and set the shower to screaming.
“Let me smell you!” She threw off the covers and ambushed him, bloodhound to trail style.
He pushed, ducked, squirmed away from her insistent sniffer. Even squirted a dollop of shampoo on his body to throw off the scent.
She still caught that tangy whiff of guilt.
He knew She KNEW.
Diet reset.
Whether he liked it or not.
