I wake this morning with a smile plastered to my face after the most glorious night experienced.

I met the ‘one’ last night.

I giggle deliriously, jump from my bed and check my phone for a message.

None! That’s okay. I’ll see him when he comes in for his morning coffee. I’ll have it ready for him.

I head to work; excitement pulsating through my veins.

Standing patiently behind the counter, I notice him walk in and my smile widens.

However, he ignores me, heading to my colleague at the next till over, leaving me feeling deceptively cool and heartbroken.

This drabble has been written as part of the daily Drabble Drop challenge and today's random word, that must be included in the drabble, is 'cool'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful idea in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
