5 movies for 2023

Here are some of the best movies that are currently on my list to watch this year:

1. "Avatar 3" - the third installment in James Cameron's blockbuster sci-fi franchise.

The Way of Water introduced us to a whole tribe of new people. We met Jake Sully and Neytiri's children, sons Neteyam and Lo'ak, daughter Tuk, adopted daughter Kiri (possibly Dr. Grace Augustine's reincarnation?!), and Spider, a human boy who strongly resembles a certain malevolent Colonel. On top of that, the entire Sully gang moves to the isolated isles of Pandora in order to protect the Omaticaya forest people. The sea people of Pandora, the Metkayina, join the ragtag Sully family on its mission to defend Pandora from the unrelenting human beings still hellbent on exploiting the planet's natural resources.

A report from BBC News claims that the next three Avatar films will be named, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa

2. "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" - the highly anticipated sequel to Marvel's "Black Panther."

“Wakanda Forever” had the unenviable charge of not only being a memorial to the late Boseman, but also move the multibillion-dollar MCU franchise forward into its next chapter.

Several critics called the plot overstuffed, as Coogler seeks to pay tribute to Boseman and establish the necessary markers for future MCU projects. The film introduces Tenoch Huerta as Namor, the ruler of Talokan, a fictional kingdom based on Atlantis, as well as Riri Williams, known in the comics as Ironheart, who will star in her own Disney+ series.

Despite its length and heftiness, “Wakanda Forever” has generated an over 80% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes from about 300 reviews.

3. "The Flash" - a DC Comics superhero movie featuring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash.

The Flash is a 2023 superhero film directed by Andrés Muschietti, from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson. It is the twelfth film and thirteenth overall installment of the DC Extended Universe, and the long-awaited solo theatrical film adaptation of the DC Comics.

A 3-issue Prequel comic book mini-series called The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive was released in late 2022, focusing on Barry's relationship with his mentor Bruce Wayne prior to the events of the movie.

4. "Fantastic Beasts 3" - the third installment in the "Harry Potter" prequel series, set in the wizarding world of J.K. Rowling.

The magizoologist Newt Scamander returns in the latest of the Fantastic Beasts movies, the prequel-saga of the wizarding world in Britain, America and beyond before Harry Potter’s Hogwarts career. JK Rowling co-writes the screenplay with Steve Kloves; Potter veteran David Yates directs with a sure hand; and Eddie Redmayne is looking more eccentric and Dickensian than ever in his role, a Copperfield or even a young Mr Dick with his shock of hair, faintly unfocused gaze, unworldly bowtie and fractionally too-short trousers.

The Secrets of Dumbledore is another very amiable and lovely-looking fantasy adventure with some great production design and visual effects, especially in the New York scenes. But it’s not about “secrets” as much as new IP-franchise narrative components shuffled into the ongoing content and shuffled out again. Yet there is certainly something intriguing about the questions arising from the saga’s approach to the existing Potter timeline. (The Guardian )

5. "Jurassic World: Dominion" - the latest movie in the "Jurassic Park" franchise, directed by Colin Trevorrow and starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

While Jurassic World Dominion is most certainly an imperfect addition to the Jurassic Park franchise — particularly with the rough presentation of some newer dinosaurs and its lack of faith in audience intelligence — it manages to introduce an impressive marriage between ever-present nostalgia and the constantly evolving challenges of having prehistoric creatures roaming free in our world. Characters new and old keep the film flying high, even if some of the Claire and Owen stuff makes the plane’s engine sputter now and again. ( The IGN)

Of course, release dates and details may change, so keep an eye on movie news for the latest updates!
