“The tooth fairy didn’t come.” The little girl opened her hand to reveal the tooth she’d lost the night before. This wasn’t her first rodeo. She’d come to expect at least a dollar under her pillow.

Her mother had simply forgotten to make the swap. Thinking quick, she asked the girl to double check while retrieving two dollars from her purse.

Then she locked herself in the bathroom to ‘summon the fairy’ and ‘negotiate’ using a silly fairy voice. She emerged triumphantly with the balance plus interest!

The girl hadn’t the heart to tell her mother she didn’t believe anymore.
