Twenty minutes!

That’s all she allows herself for her daily chores. She sets a timer and as it begins to tick down she works.

Twenty minutes!

She picks up the rug and takes it outside, giving it a good bash or two to get out the ingrained dirt; she empties the trash bin and sweeps the kitchen floor.

Twenty minutes!

As the clock ticks she washes the dishes — until she hears the dial click and a tinny ring.

Twenty minutes!

She downs tools and sits with a good book.

Her friends call her lazy — she calls herself productive.

I was challenged by Jessica's Quill (Medium Writer) to write a drabble of the word 'lazy'.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Colleen, this is not lazy, this is a writer's life! This made me feel that I am the slacker here, lol!

    Good story

  • Lol, I just heard a story from one of my wife's parishioners right along these lines. He was selling some hogs to an associate while a hard working wizened woman & her mother were doing the same. She looked at him & his hogs & asked, "You work those?" He responded, "Nah, they're just feeders." She replied with great disdain, "Why you don't work at all, do ya." He begged to differ. I guess working hogs is pretty hard & harrowing work, especially sows.

Good job on this drabble, Colleen! I like it. Twenty minutes sounds good in one way. I could handle that. I am afraid I need to do so much more time than that every day. With some major uncluttering, it would come closer, but still not do what needed to be done.
